About KaroStartup

KaroStartup began in 2020 as a college Instagram page. Today it's a startup media platform with a 1M+ community, built on one thing — telling real Indian business stories with real numbers.

We're known as the page that checks things. Every figure we publish is sourced. Every founder we name is named correctly. That reputation is the whole business.

What this role actually is

Everyone in this space is publishing the same ten stories. The same Zomato origin story, the same Zepto founders, the same Swiggy timeline, recycled every week by fifty pages.

Your job is to find the eleventh story.

That means digging — through annual reports, filings, old interviews, regional business press, YouTube archives — until you find something true that nobody else has told. And when the research isn't enough, going directly to the founder on LinkedIn and asking.

You'll then build that story into a format that fits it. Not everything is a carousel. Some stories need a reel, some need long-form, some need a format we haven't tried yet.

Story first. Format second. Both original.

What you'll do

- Hunt for stories nobody has covered. Bootstrapped companies, family businesses, Tier 2–3 founders, brands people use daily without knowing who built them.
- Research deep. Annual reports, MCA filings, DRHPs, founder interviews, regional business media. Primary sources, not a summary of a summary.
- Reach out to founders directly. Many of them already follow us or are connected with us. Message them on LinkedIn, ask for the detail that isn't public, get the story firsthand.
- Write the story — the arc, the hook, the turn, the line that makes someone send it to a friend

- Decide and design the format. We're moving beyond static posts. Part of this role is figuring out what a story should be: carousel, reel script, long-form LinkedIn piece, podcast episode, or something we haven't built yet.
- Verify everything before it goes out. Every revenue or profit figure carries its financial year. Net worth and valuation claims come from Forbes or Hurun. No aggregator-only sourcing. No invented struggle arcs.
- Build a story bank — a running pipeline of researched, verified stories ready to go, so we're never scrambling for the week's content

- You'll probably love this job if

- You read. Constantly. Business books, biographies, long-form journalism, annual reports for fun.
- You've read about Jobs, Musk, Tata, Premji, Ambani — and you're just as interested in the founder of a ₹200 crore company nobody has heard of
- You want to know how a business was actually built — the capital, the first customer, the near-death moment, the decision that worked
- You get irritated seeing the same recycled story on your feed for the fifth time
- You'd rather spend three days on one story that lands than push out five that don't
- You enjoy the chase — finding the one interview from 2013 where the founder said the thing everyone else missed

- Skills we're looking for

Must have

- Excellent writing. Simple, clear, human, with a sense of pacing and structure.
- Serious research ability — you can find a primary source and verify a number without being told where to look
- Genuine interest in entrepreneurship, business models and how companies are built
- Comfortable doing outreach — messaging founders on LinkedIn and getting a reply
- Editorial judgment. You know when a story is thin and you say so before it gets drafted.
- Comfortable using AI to research and draft faster, and disciplined enough to verify everything it gives you

Good to have

- Comfortable writing in Hinglish as well as English
- Understanding of what performs on Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube
- Basic Canva or video sense
- A blog, newsletter or page where you've published your own writing

The honest partMost of the stories you chase will not work out. You'll spend a day on a company and find nothing worth telling. That's the job — the good ones only exist because you turned over the ones that didn't. Our sourcing standard is strict, and it will occasionally kill a story you're attached to. If a number can't be traced to a credible source, it doesn't go out, no matter how good the hook is. We would rather publish less than publish something we have to delete.

What you get out of it

- Full ownership of original stories going out to a community of over a million people
- Freedom to chase the stories you find compelling, not just execute a calendar
- Direct conversations with founders across India
- A published body of work with your research behind it
- Room to invent new content formats for the brand from scratch
