About SuperHuman Race In 2016, we started imagining a world where 'good' is valued and rewarded. Based on this lofty mission of making the world a better place, powered by human kindness, we started looking for our answers in data and technology. At the SuperHuman Race, we take pride in using creativity and data to solve intersections.
In working out these solutions, we discover the engineers, the architects, and the authors that live and breathe deep inside the colorful fabric of society. At the core of the SuperHuman Race is the belief that while good work is important and aspiring to make an impact is necessary, it cannot be sustainable unless it is also fun!
About DEFINE
DEFINE is our AI-powered climate-intelligence system that transforms how industrial operations measure, verify, and act on emissions. Our award-winning platform has been globally recognised for replacing static, survey-based emission factors with dynamic, real-time, asset-level intelligence generated directly from factories, production lines and value-chain activities. By integrating operational data, sensor signals, geospatial inputs, and machine-learning models, DEFINE creates primary-data-driven emission factors that reflect actual technology configurations, process parameters, and energy mixes inside plants.
Job Summary
Steel is one of the world's hardest-to-abate sectors - and one of the most critical to decarbonise. As a Steel Sector Expert at SuperHumanRace, you will lead DEFINE's Steel Sector Engagement, bringing deep domain knowledge of steel manufacturing to shape how our AI tools model, measure, and reduce emissions across the steel value chain.
You will work at the intersection of industrial expertise, climate intelligence, and stakeholder engagement - collaborating with DEFINE's national and global partners, advising clients on net zero pathways, and ensuring that DEFINE's models accurately reflect the realities of modern and legacy steel production. Think of yourself as the steel sector's voice inside our platform - someone who can walk a plant manager through their emissions profile in the morning,
and present decarbonisation roadmaps to a board of directors in the afternoon.
Key Responsibilities
Steel Sector Engagement & Advisory
● Lead DEFINE's engagements with steel manufacturers, associations, and industry stakeholders at the national and global level.
● Serve as the primary domain expert for steel sector clients - advising on decarbonisation strategies, net zero roadmaps, and emission reduction levers relevant to their specific process configurations.
● Map steel manufacturing processes (blast furnace, DRI-EAF, scrap-based routes, etc.) onto DEFINE's climate intelligence models to ensure accurate, plant-specific emission factors.
Net Zero Roadmap Development
● Develop and review net zero roadmaps for steel clients, covering technology transitions (e.g., green hydrogen, carbon capture, electrification), fuel switching, and operational efficiency improvements.
● Benchmark client operations against national and international standards (BEE, SteelZero, TCFD, SBTi) and identify gaps and opportunities.
● Translate technical decarbonisation pathways into actionable implementation plans that are feasible within client-specific constraints.
Platform Integration & Data Quality
● Work with the DEFINE product and data science teams to configure steel-sector emission models, validate primary data from plant operations, and improve model accuracy.
● Guide clients and in office data teams in capturing relevant process data - energy consumption, raw material inputs, production parameters - to feed into DEFINE's models.
● Ensure data collected from steel plants meets quality, completeness, and audit-readiness standards required for credible carbon accounting.
Thought Leadership & Partner Collaboration
● Contribute to whitepapers, policy briefs, and sector reports that position SHR as a credible voice in steel decarbonisation.
● Represent DEFINE at industry forums, conferences, and working groups focused on hard-to-abate sector decarbonisation.
● Collaborate with SHR's national and global partners - research institutions, technology providers, industry associations - to keep DEFINE's steel models at the frontier of sector knowledge.
Qualifications
Required
● Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
● 8 to 10 years of experience in steel manufacturing, industrial operations, or sustainability consulting focused on the steel or heavy industry sector.
● Deep technical knowledge of steel production processes - blast furnace/BOF, DRI/EAF, scrap-EAF, and associated energy and emissions profiles.
● Strong understanding of carbon accounting methodologies, emission factors, and industrial decarbonisation frameworks.
● Excellent communication skills - able to produce clear written reports and present complex findings to diverse audiences.
● Comfort working with data and digital tools; willingness to engage with AI-powered platforms.
Preferred
● Experience developing or reviewing net zero roadmaps or decarbonisation strategies for steel or allied heavy industries.
● Consulting experience in industrial sustainability, energy efficiency, or climate strategy for the steel sector.
● Familiarity with national and international frameworks: BEE PAT Scheme, SteelZero, SBTi for industry, TCFD, or equivalent.
● Exposure to carbon markets, green steel certification schemes, or low-carbon procurement standards.
● Experience engaging with industry associations, policy bodies, or multilateral climate initiatives.
● Prior experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), ERP, or industrial data platforms.
