About this Role
We're looking for a Shopify Head to own the technical architecture, development, performance, and continuous optimisation of Valerie's ecommerce and web platforms across multiple brands. Shopify will be a core part of the role, but we're looking for someone who can think beyond Shopify and take ownership of our wider digital ecosystem, including CMS platforms, website infrastructure, integrations, analytics, performance, SEO, and customer experience.
You'll work closely with Growth, Product, SEO, Content, and Operations teams to build scalable, secure, and high-performing digital platforms. You'll also provide technical direction to developers, establish strong engineering standards, and help Valerie continue improving how we build and manage our web platforms.
Success in this role means reliable and scalable platforms, faster websites, stronger Core Web Vitals, accurate tracking, successful integrations, improved conversion, reduced technical debt, and a digital ecosystem that can support Valerie as we grow.
You could be a great fit if...
- You think beyond Shopify and understand how ecommerce platforms fit into a wider technology ecosystem.
- You're comfortable owning technical architecture and making decisions around scalability, performance, integrations, and infrastructure.
- You enjoy being hands-on technically while also leading and mentoring other developers.
- You can explain technical problems and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- You understand the relationship between engineering, SEO, CRO, analytics, and customer experience.
- You proactively identify performance issues, technical debt, and opportunities to improve how websites are built and managed.
- You're comfortable owning multiple ecommerce brands and digital properties at the same time.
- You care about clean, scalable, secure, and well-documented code.
- You enjoy evaluating new technologies, automation, and AI-assisted development tools that can improve engineering efficiency.
Requirements
- 8–10 years of experience in Shopify and ecommerce development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Shopify Plus and complex Shopify builds, customisations, and migrations.
- Strong experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js, Liquid, HTML, and CSS.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, third-party integrations, payment gateways, and connected business systems.
- Experience owning website architecture and supporting multiple ecommerce brands or websites.
- Strong understanding of website performance optimisation and Core Web Vitals.
- Strong understanding of technical SEO, including structured data and technical website health.
- Experience implementing GA4, Google Tag Manager, and ecommerce tracking.
- Good understanding of CRO, experimentation, UX, and conversion optimisation.
- Experience with website infrastructure, hosting, domains, DNS, CDN, deployment processes, and web security.
- Experience leading developers, conducting code reviews, establishing development standards, and mentoring engineers.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Comfortable independently owning technical decisions and solving complex platform problems.
Bonus Points
- Experience with headless commerce architecture.
- Experience with Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, AWS, or similar infrastructure.
- Experience working with WordPress, Webflow, or other CMS platforms.
- Familiarity with WCAG and web accessibility standards.
- Experience supporting CRM, ERP, middleware, and other ecommerce platform integrations.
- Experience managing multiple brands and digital properties simultaneously.
- Experience with ecommerce architecture beyond Shopify.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools and automation to improve developer productivity.
- Experience working in high-growth,
multi-brand, or founder-led environments.
You probably shouldn't apply if...
- Your Shopify experience is mainly limited to Liquid, themes, and basic store customisation.
- You haven't worked extensively with JavaScript or contemporary frontend frameworks.
- You have limited experience with APIs and third-party integrations.
- You haven't worked with Shopify Plus or complex ecommerce environments.
- You prefer development execution without taking ownership of architecture and technical decisions.
- You haven't worked hands-on with website performance, Core Web Vitals, or technical SEO.
- You prefer focusing only on backend development without owning the wider customer-facing web experience.
- You're uncomfortable leading developers, mentoring others, or communicating technical recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
