Job Profile: Senior Java API Test Engineer

Location: Chennai, India

Preferred experience: - 7-9 years The Role:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java API Test Engineer with solid hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, advanced API development, and automated testing. You will be responsible for improving unit and integration test coverage across an existing Spring Boot backend application, identifying critical untested business paths, developing API and functional tests, and supporting service migration while maintaining application stability and quality.

Responsibilities:

API & Test Automation

· Design, implement, and maintain automated test suites for migrated APIs.

· Develop API, functional, integration, and E2E tests to support service migration.

· Verify inherited automation and make necessary fixes to ensure reliability.

· Identify gaps in test coverage across critical business and execution paths.

Unit & Integration Testing

· Analyze the existing Spring Boot codebase to identify untested business logic.

· Develop robust Unit Tests and Integration Tests using JUnit, Mockito, and Spring Boot Test utilities.

· Refactor legacy code where required to improve testability through dependency injection and decoupling.





· Mock external services and improve testable application components.

Test Coverage & Quality

· Monitor and track test coverage improvements using tools such as SonarQube.

· Prepare and reset test data and execute complete test suites.

· Troubleshoot test failures and maintain a reliable test pipeline.

· Continuously improve test frameworks, execution speed, reliability, and maintainability.

CI/CD & Collaboration

- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaborate closely with developers to integrate testing early in the development lifecycle.
- Support faster feedback loops and reliable service migration.
- Provide technical input for improving testing processes and practices.

Must - Have Qualifications:

· Minimum 7+ years of software engineering experience.

· Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in advanced API development.

· Strong expertise in Java 8+ and Spring Boot.

· Strong hands-on experience with JUnit, Mockito, and Spring Boot Test.

· Proven experience implementing Unit and Integration Tests in existing or monolithic applications.

· Strong understanding of API, Functional, Integration, and E2E testing.

· Hands-on experience with Maven or Gradle and Git.

· Experience integrating automated testing with Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.

· Experience with test coverage and quality tools such as SonarQube.

· Experience refactoring legacy code to improve testability.

· Experience with test data management and automated test failure troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.

· Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

· Good written and verbal communication skills.
