About the Role

We have a mature, production iOS application (a brownfield codebase) that we are transforming into an AI-powered product and changing how we build it. We are looking for a Senior iOS Developer who can do both: modernize and re-architect the existing app to embed AI capabilities into the core user experience, and lead the transition to an AI-led development model where engineers build with AI assistants as the default way of working. Claude is our primary AI tool and a high priority in this role — you will use Claude and Claude Code daily to understand legacy code, plan safe refactors, generate and review changes, and accelerate delivery, and you will set the standard for how the iOS team adopts AI-led development.

This is a hands-on senior role for an engineer who is an excellent iOS craftsperson, comfortable working inside a large existing codebase, and energized by AI-driven development.

What You'll Do

Brownfield Transformation

- Understand & re-architect: Take ownership of the existing production iOS app: understand its architecture, dependencies, and technical debt, then plan and execute a safe, incremental migration toward an AI-powered product.
- Modernize safely: Refactor and modernize legacy code without breaking existing functionality — introducing modern patterns, improving test coverage, and de-risking each change with feature flags and staged rollouts.
- Embed AI into the product: Integrate AI/LLM capabilities directly into the app's core experience — assistant/chat, summarization, semantic search, personalization, and agentic flows — on the existing iOS stack.
- Protect what works: Maintain backward compatibility, data integrity,



and release stability throughout the transformation.

AI-Led Development (High Priority — Claude First)
- Claude-first workflow: Use Claude and Claude Code as your default tool for reading and mapping legacy code, planning refactors, writing and reviewing changes, generating tests, and debugging — and champion best practices for prompting, context management, and reviewing AI-generated code.
- Set the standard: Establish AI-led development practices for the iOS team: workflows, guardrails, code-review norms for AI output, and measurable productivity and quality improvements.
- LLM integration: Integrate the Anthropic API / Claude and other model providers into the iOS app (Swift) — handling auth, streaming responses, tool/function calling, retries, and secure key management via a backend.
- Quality & safety: Put evaluation, prompt versioning, cost/latency budgeting, and observability in place so AI features are measurable and reliable — not guesswork.

Core iOS Engineering
- Work across a production Swift/Objective-C iOS codebase and drive migration toward up-to-date architecture (SwiftUI, Swift Concurrency, Combine, MVVM).
- Own performance, memory, battery, and stability across devices and iOS versions.
- Raise test coverage with unit and UI tests (XCTest, XCUITest)



to make refactors safe.
- Manage the App Store release pipeline, code signing, provisioning, and TestFlight rollouts.

Ownership & Collaboration
- Lead migration workstreams end to end — planning, architecture, implementation, review, release, and post-launch iteration.
- Partner with product, design, backend, and ML/AI teams to sequence the transformation and ship measurable value in stages.
- Mentor engineers on both legacy-codebase craft and effective, responsible use of AI tooling.

What We're Looking For Must-Have
- 5–8 years of professional iOS development, with strong Swift expertise (and comfort with legacy Objective-C).
- Deep experience with modern iOS architecture and incremental migration to SwiftUI / Swift Concurrency.
- Proven track record shipping and maintaining production apps on the App Store.
- Proven experience working in and refactoring large, existing (brownfield) production codebases — not just greenfield projects.
- Strong instinct for safe, incremental migration: feature flags, backward compatibility, automated testing, and staged rollouts.
- Demonstrable enthusiasm for AI-led development and hands-on experience with Claude, Claude Code, or comparable AI coding assistants.
- Experience integrating REST/GraphQL and, ideally, LLM/ML APIs into a shipping app.
