ABOUT CROWN COMPUTERS

Crown Computers is a managed services provider based in San Diego, California. We look after the networks, servers and cloud environments of roughly 60 small and mid-sized businesses across the United States. I have owned and run this business for 30 years.

We are a 13-person team, completely virtual, and we genuinely like each other.

We are not new to hiring in India. We have had an engineer working with us from Chandigarh for 17 years (Still on our team) , and we have hired many other Indian engineers over the years. If you get far enough in this process we will put you in touch with them privately, so you can ask whatever you like about what it is actually like to work here. It is hard to judge a foreign employer from a job post, so ask the people who already work here instead of taking our word for it.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is our senior engineer seat, the one the hard problems go to. You are the escalation point for our Tier 1 and Tier 2 engineers. When a ticket has been touched twice, or has run past four hours, it comes to you.

- Own escalations from our L1 and L2 engineers through to resolution
- Troubleshoot across networking, Windows Server, virtualization and Microsoft 365 environments
- Communicate clearly while you work, with our team, with vendors, and sometimes directly with clients
- Document as you go. Every escalation you close leaves behind notes the next engineer can act on. Documentation matters a lot to us.
- Spot recurring issues, propose permanent fixes, and make our processes a little better every month
- Speak up early when you are blocked. We would always rather hear about it sooner.

Anything physical, such as swapping hardware,



running cable or being onsite, stays with our US engineers. You focus on the interesting work.

PREFERRED CANDIDATE PROFILE

- 10+ years in IT support or systems engineering, with genuine Level 3 / L3 / Tier 3 depth. You have been the escalation point before, ideally at an MSP or managed services provider.
- Strong networking: firewalls, switching, VLANs, VPN, DNS, DHCP, L2/L3 routing
- Strong Windows Server: Active Directory, Group Policy, Hyper-V or VMware
- Project Engineer skills to help get projects into the endzone.
- Microsoft 365 and Entra ID (Azure AD) administration
- Strong written English. Your documentation is read and relied on by US engineers.
- Transparent spoken English. You will be on calls with vendors and occasionally with clients.
- Reliable power and internet, with a backup plan for both

WHAT WE USE Kaseya VSA (moving to NinjaRMM), ConnectWise Manage, Hudu, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Azure, Windows Server 2012-2022, Active Directory, Group Policy, Hyper-V, VMware, Sophos, SonicWall, Ubiquiti, Acronis, Synology, DNS, DHCP, VPN, L2/L3 switching, Dell iDRAC, Exchange.

You do not need every one of these. Deep on several and comfortable learning the rest is exactly right.

THE SCHEDULE, PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY





Our clients work 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM San Diego time and this seat supports them live. In India that is approximately 8:30 PM to 5:30 AM IST, five days a week. It shifts by one hour twice a year when US daylight saving changes.

We know that schedule is not for everyone, and that is completely okay. Many experienced engineers have worked US hours for years and genuinely prefer it. If that is you, everything else about this job is built to make it worth your while.

There is a 15-minute stand-up on Microsoft Teams at the start of the shift, camera on. After that the day is yours to work. We do not sit on video calls all day. Log your time daily.

PAY

Rs 30 to 40 lakhs per annum, based on experience and English. You are engaged as a full-time international contractor and paid monthly. Pay is set in US dollars, so the rupee figure moves a little with the exchange rate.

We checked what other employers pay for this seat before we set this number, and it is deliberately above the market, because we are hiring for many years, not many months.

OUR PROCESS

Stage 1: your application and the screening questions.

Stage 2: a skills conversation on Microsoft Teams, 30 to 90 minutes, camera on.

Stage 3: a written technical test.

Stage 4: a PAID 90-minute practical exercise in a live Microsoft 365 environment. We pay you for your time.

Then references and a background check.

Short, specific and honest beats long and polished. If you have a story where you got it wrong for two hours before you got it right, that is the story we want to hear.
