Joining Date: Immediately
Minimum Experience: 2 yrs About the Role
We are building the next-generation Global Satellite Constellation for highly precise and secure Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) using Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. We are seeking a motivated Satellite Systems Engineer to join our mission. In this role, you shall be responsible for ensuring bus system readiness and delivery compatible with VyomIC payload.
The Satellite Bus Systems
Engineer will serve as the primary technical point of contact for all satellite bus-related activities at VyomIC. The role is responsible for defining and communicating mission and system requirements to satellite bus vendors, evaluating bus platforms, managing technical discussions, overseeing procurement and customization activities, and ensuring successful integration of the bus with the mission payload. The engineer will work closely with internal teams and external partners throughout the spacecraft development lifecycle to ensure the selected bus platform meets mission performance, schedule, and quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the technical evaluation, selection, customization, and procurement of the spacecraft bus in alignment with mission, payload, schedule, cost, and performance requirements.
Serve as the primary technical point of contact (POC) between VyomIC and the spacecraft bus manufacturer throughout the spacecraft development lifecycle.
Define, manage, and maintain spacecraft system requirements, subsystem specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), compliance matrices, and technical documentation.
Establish, monitor, and update spacecraft resource budgets, including mass, power, thermal, data, propulsion while tracking design margins, subsystem allocations, and overall mission performance throughout the project lifecycle.
Develop and maintain the overall spacecraft architecture, ensuring seamless integration between platform subsystems, payload, ground segment, and mission operations.
Coordinate with subsystem teams, payload engineers to ensure system-level compatibility across mechanical, electrical, thermal, software, and communication interfaces.
Perform system-level trade studies and analyses for spacecraft configuration, subsystem selection, mass, power, thermal, data handling, reliability, and overall mission performance.
Work closely with the payload engineering team to ensure the spacecraft bus satisfies all payload accommodations.
Support systems engineering activities, including requirements management, verification planning, risk assessments, and participation in design reviews such as SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and FRR.
Review spacecraft design, qualification, verification, and compliance documentation to ensure alignment with mission objectives, contractual requirements, and applicable industry standards.
Support spacecraft Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) activities, including subsystem integration, functional testing, environmental qualification, acceptance testing, and anomaly resolution.
Support launch vehicle interface activities, including spacecraft-to-launch vehicle compatibility assessments, finite element model (FEM) exchanges, interface verification, compliance documentation, and launch readiness reviews.
Participate in launch campaign activities, spacecraft shipment, Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP), commissioning support, and handover to routine mission operations.
Maintain configuration management records, as-built documentation, interface documentation, and engineering change records throughout the spacecraft lifecycle.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Mission Planning, Flight Dynamics, RF, Payload, Regulatory, Ground Segment, and Operations, to ensure successful end-to-end mission execution.
Drive continuous improvement of spacecraft systems engineering processes, documentation standards, and supplier engagement practices.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Avionics, or a related discipline.
Total work experience of at least 2 years along with practical flight-experience working with multidisciplinary teams in a space tech company in India.
Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to interpret technical literature, institutional ICDs, and international legal/regulatory frameworks.
Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working with uncertain or incomplete tracking observations.
Experience working on flight spacecraft programmes through development, Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT), and launch.
Strong understanding of spacecraft bus architecture, subsystem integration, avionics, and spacecraft interfaces.
Experience with spacecraft verification, qualification, and compliance activities.
Ability to prepare and review technical documentation, interface control documents (ICDs), compliance matrices, and engineering reports.
Familiarity with launch vehicle interfaces, spacecraft structural modelling, and FE model exchange is desirable.
Experience coordinating with payload teams, launch providers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams, including international partners.
Strong systems engineering, technical coordination, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with internationally accepted spacecraft engineering standards and development practices (ECSS, CCSDS, NASA or equivalent) is desirable.
Experience with Systems Engineering and MBSE tools.
