Summary:

The role of a Data Centre Safety & Security Officer is to manage the critical infrastructure, operations, and maintenance of a highly available, Tier-IV fault-tolerant enterprise-class data centre. The role requires knowledge of safety regulations, compliances, MEP environments, emergency procedures, and hazard analysis within critical infrastructure.

The Safety

Officer will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and improving Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices aligned with global data centre standards.

Experience:

- More than 8 years' experience with at least 6 years' experience in Data Centre Operation & maintenance, Facility management.Experience in vendor/contractor/OEM Management & Contract management, etc.
- 5-7 years of experience in HSE, with a minimum 3 years in Data Centre or Critical Infrastructure Projects.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise-

- Experience in the operation and Maintenance of civil, electrical, HVAC, LAN, Safety, and Security system components for a large-scale Data Centre
- Should have good interpersonal skills to handle vendors and junior staff, and should be able to multitask.
- Should be technically sound and have hands-on experience in troubleshooting.

Knowledge:

- Working knowledge to support all the necessary procedures related to security approval, accreditation, certification, etc.
- Knowledge in industrial safety best practices (i.e. lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA, and state regulations).
- Working Knowledge on HT & LT Switchgears, Diesel Generator & HVAC Mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with national and international safety codes, standards,



and practices.
- Proficient in safety reporting, documentation, MIS Report, and communication.

Technical Skills:

- Strong knowledge of fire safety systems, physical security infrastructure, and emergency response protocols.
- Familiarity with data centre operations and critical infrastructure protection.
- Experience with security technologies: access control, surveillance, biometric systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid organisational skills, including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
- Robust working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Roles and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the position will be to exercise supervisory control over the O&M; vendor / OEM’s and will be responsible for the followings:

- Implement and enforce safety policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with company and statutory requirements.
- Conduct daily site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations applicable to data centre operation and maintenance.
- Prepare and maintain documentation, including safety checklists, incident reports, permits, and compliance reports.




- Lead toolbox training, site inductions, and regular safety training sessions.
- Investigate near misses, incidents, and accidents, and recommend preventive measures.
- Ensure safe work practices are followed across all site operations.
- Maintain emergency response readiness, including firefighting, evacuation, and first-aid procedures.
- Coordinate with local authorities and emergency services when required.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure in a 24x7 operational environment.
- Ensure compliance with local fire codes and international safety standards (e.g., NFPA, ISO 45001).
- Manage physical access control systems, CCTV surveillance, and intrusion detection.
- Well-versed in Incident Management & change management, etc.

Training & Awareness:

- Conduct safety and security training for staff and contractors.
- Promote a culture of safety and vigilance across the facility.
- Develop and update SOPs, EOPs, and incident response plans.

Education: Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or equivalent) – Preferred/Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, Security Management, or related field.

Compliance & Certifications:

- Ensure adherence to international standards such as ISO 27001 (Information Security), ISO 22301 (Business Continuity), and TIA-942 (Data Centre Standards).
- Maintain documentation for audits, certifications, and regulatory compliance.
- Support internal and external audits related to safety and security.
- Certifications desirable NEBOSH / IOSH /NFPA / First Aid / CPR / AED.
