Purposive AI is a new research and practice initiative of the Center for Career and Life Design Counselling, focused on AI Capability Development and Human-Centred AI Adoption. It explores how individuals, organisations and communities can develop the capability to adopt and use AI meaningfully, with emphasis on AI adaptability, inclusion and livelihoods, human–AI interaction, and socio-technical approaches to AI adoption.

Our Center for Career and Life Design Counselling works at the intersection of career and life development, human capability development and future readiness. Through Purposive AI, the Center is extending this work into the emerging field of AI & Society, with an emphasis on developing practical, evidence-based frameworks for inclusive and human-centred AI adoption.

Role Description:

We are inviting applications for a Research Internship [in hybrid mode] in "AI & Society" under our new initiative "PURPOSIVE AI: AI Capability Development & Human-Centred AI Adoption". Since the internship involves in-person interaction, we are restricting this position for Kolkata students only.

The internship is intended especially for students and research aspirants from Humanities and Social Sciences, including

- Social Work,
- Sociology,
- Psychology,
- Political Science,
- Education,
- Development Studies,
- Economics,
- Management and related areas.

Our central research question is:

How can individuals, organisations and communities develop the capability to adopt and use AI meaningfully?





Applicants may be 4th-year undergraduate students, postgraduate students, post-PG students preparing for doctoral studies.

The research programme currently focuses on three interconnected areas:

>> AI Capability, Adaptability & Human Development

>> AI Inclusion, Livelihoods & Socio-Technical Development

>> Human–AI Interaction, Intent Discovery & Adaptable AI The internship will involve activities such as literature review, conceptual framework development, research instrument design, case studies, pilot-study design & implementation and preparation of research papers or reports.

Duration: 3–6 months part-time

Nature: Unpaid Research Internship

Advanced programming knowledge is not required. We are particularly interested in students who want to examine AI from a human, behavioural, social and developmental perspective.
