The QA Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and scalability of a cloud‑native backend platform that powers a free ad‑supported video streaming service. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and executing automated and manual tests for distributed microservices, data pipelines, and asynchronous workflows.

The position requires a highly self‑sufficient engineer who can independently own quality assurance for specific platform components while collaborating with globally distributed engineering, product, and support teams.

Requirements The platform supports a Free Ad‑Supported Streaming TV (FAST) service with strict requirements for uptime, performance, and data correctness. The QA Engineer validates systems across three core areas:

- Ingestion Cluster –
- Services that download partner content feeds, validate and normalize metadata, ingest media assets (videos, images, captions), and manage ongoing lifecycle updates of assets and metadata.
- Live Channel Streaming Playout –
- Backend systems that stitch individual media assets into continuous 24/7 HLS streams, where high throughput, availability, and correctness are critical.
- Data Export Framework –
- Systems that aggregate media assets and metadata from the platform library and generate customized exports for external partners such as Roku, Amazon, Sony, and Samsung.

The setting is built on Google Cloud Platform, using Dockerized microservices, Kubernetes, RabbitMQ, SQL and NoSQL databases, and CI/CD pipelines to support frequent and reliable releases.

Skills And Experience Required

- 4–6 years of experience in a QA Automation or SDET role
- Strong experience testing RESTful APIs and backend microservices




- Hands‑on experience with Docker and microservice‑based architectures
- Experience testing message‑driven systems (RabbitMQ or similar)
- Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Cloud SQL, Firestore)
- Experience with CI/CD tools, particularly Jenkins
- Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language: Python, Bash, or JavaScript
- Experience working in cloud environments, preferably Google Cloud Platform
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
- Experience with performance and load testing tools (e.g., JMeter)
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver results with minimal supervision
- Enjoys validating metadata and understands its critical role in backend system correctness and reliability.

Nice To Have

- Familiarity with Kubernetes
- Experience with test frameworks such as PyTest, TestNG, or Mocha
- Knowledge of observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
- Exposure to or interest in AI‑assisted testing tools and intelligent test automation

Typical Tasks And Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for REST APIs and microservices
- Execute functional, integration, regression, and performance testing across ingestion, playout, and export systems
- Build Docker images for testable microservices and deploy them into Kubernetes clusters
- Validate asynchronous workflows involving RabbitMQ, ensuring correct message handling and fault tolerance
- Test backend data interactions with Cloud SQL and Firestore
- Build and maintain automated regression test suites for message‑based services
- Perform manual testing of code changes associated with Jira tickets and production fixes
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitHub
- Identify, reproduce, document, and track defects through resolution
- Participate in root cause analysis, post‑incident reviews, and preventive quality improvements
- Own QA coverage for assigned systems, working independently while coordinating across time zones
- Continuously improve QA processes, tooling, and test reliability
