Role Overview

We are looking for a Data Test Automation Engineer (SDET-I) who is passionate about ensuring the quality, accuracy, and reliability of enterprise data platforms. This role combines the strengths of a traditional Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with the specialized expertise of a Data QA Engineer .

You will be responsible for validating data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, APIs, and analytical datasets across modern cloud data platforms. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in SQL, proficient in Python-based automation, and capable of independently designing and executing data validation frameworks that ensure data integrity from source systems through reporting and analytics layers.

This is a data-first automation role , focused on preventing data defects, identifying silent data corruption, and providing confidence in business-critical reporting and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

Data Validation & ETL Testing

- Validate end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines, ensuring data is accurately transformed and loaded into target systems.
- Perform source-to-target testing, transformation validation, reconciliation, and business rule verification.
- Validate batch, incremental, and real-time data processing workflows.
- Test data migrations, historical backfills, schema changes, and rollback scenarios.
- Verify data quality dimensions including completeness, accuracy, consistency, validity, uniqueness, and timeliness.

Test Automation

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks using Python and Pytest and/or Selenium
- Create reusable automated validation scripts for data quality and reconciliation testing.
- Develop parameterized and configuration-driven test suites for large-scale data validation.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous delivery.

SQL & Database Testing

- Write complex SQL queries involving joins, aggregations, subqueries, CTEs, window functions, and reconciliation logic.
- Validate data across multiple databases, warehouses, and analytical platforms.
- Perform source-to-target comparisons across large-volume datasets.
- Analyze data discrepancies and perform root-cause investigations.





API & End-to-End Validation

- Validate APIs supporting data ingestion and downstream integrations.
- Ensure consistency between source applications, APIs, data pipelines, warehouses, and reporting systems.
- Perform end-to-end testing across data ecosystems.

Reporting & Stakeholder Collaboration

- Create reconciliation reports and quality dashboards to support release sign-offs.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, Developers, Product Owners, and Business Analysts.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Communicate risks, defects, and quality metrics to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications 1. Data QA / ETL Testing Experience

- Hands-on experience validating ETL/ELT pipelines, data warehouses, or modern data platforms.
- Strong understanding of source-to-target mapping validation and transformation testing.

2. Advanced SQL

- Expertise in writing complex SQL validation and reconciliation queries independently.
- Ability to analyze and validate large datasets efficiently.

3. Python Programming – good to have

- Strong Python development skills with experience building automation frameworks.
- Ability to create maintainable, scalable, and production-ready test automation solutions.

4. Pytest Framework – good to have

- Experience building and maintaining Pytest-based testing frameworks.
- Familiarity with fixtures, parameterization, test organization, and reporting.

5. Independent Ownership

- Ability to manage testing activities end-to-end with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving and prioritization skills.

6. Quality Engineering Experience

- Minimum 2+ years of QA, Data QA, or Test Automation experience.
- Exposure to real-world data pipelines, data warehouse testing, or analytics platforms.

- Identify and prevent at least one critical data quality issue before it impacts reporting or analytics.
- Establish measurable improvements in data quality coverage and automation.
