Project Engineer Software is a cross-functional engineering role responsible for bridging industrial engineering standards, software systems, and project delivery across ERIC Robotics portfolio of robotic products.

The role will work closely with the CTO, Team Lead Software, and Project Management Office (PMO) to establish disciplined software engineering practices, contribute to system architecture, optimise communication and data acquisition systems, and support structured project execution.

This position requires a combination of technical depth, engineering discipline, project coordination, documentation, and strong cross-functional communication.

Key Responsibilities

- Industrial Standards and Engineering Practices
- Define, document, and implement software engineering standards aligned with applicable industrial, quality, and safety requirements.
- Establish coding standards, code review processes, version control practices, testing requirements, and CI/CD guidelines across the software team.
- Support periodic reviews and compliance audits to identify gaps in software engineering practices.
- Coordinate corrective actions and track identified gaps to closure.
- Maintain a structured and accessible repository of applicable standards, engineering guidelines, development practices, and reference documents.
- Promote consistent engineering practices across software development, integration, testing, and deployment activities.

- System Design and Software Architecture

- Contribute to and review high-level software architecture for new and existing robotic platforms.
- Prepare and maintain system design documentation, including architecture diagrams, interface specifications, and data-flow models.
- Evaluate architectural trade-offs related to modularity, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and real-time performance.
- Document technical decisions and provide recommendations with appropriate engineering rationale.
- Ensure architectural decisions consider safety, maintainability, system integration, and the long-term product roadmap.

- Communication and Data Acquisition Optimisation

- Analyse and optimise communication protocols and middleware, including ROS2, DDS, IPC, EtherCAT, MQTT, CAN, and other relevant technologies.
- Develop strategies to reduce latency, improve communication reliability, and maintain data integrity across robotic systems.
- Support the evaluation and selection of hardware interfaces, middleware,

networking technologies, and communication frameworks.
- Benchmark communication and data acquisition performance under representative operating conditions.
- Prepare data-backed performance and optimisation reports for technical leadership.
- Identify communication bottlenecks, data-loss risks, synchronisation issues, and system-level performance constraints.

- Project Planning and Management Support

- Support the Team Lead Software and PMO in sprint planning, milestone definition, resource estimation, dependency management, and risk tracking.
- Maintain relevant project artefacts, including work breakdown structures, technical schedules, dependency maps, and technical trackers.
- Identify technical blockers and dependencies at an early stage and communicate them to relevant stakeholders.
- Support the development and tracking of mitigation plans for identified technical risks.
- Track software delivery against agreed technical scope, milestones, and project requirements.
- Provide structured and data-driven project status updates to the CTO and relevant stakeholders.

- Technical Communication and Knowledge Dissemination

- Support the introduction and evaluation of new technologies, frameworks, tools, and engineering methodologies within the software team.
- Prepare and deliver structured technical presentations, workshops, briefing notes, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Maintain team-facing documentation, including onboarding guides, architecture overviews, engineering guidelines, and lessons-learned registers.
- Translate complex technical information into transparent documentation for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Promote continuous learning, technical documentation, and proactive knowledge sharing across engineering functions.

Requirements

- Educational Qualification
- B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech in Computer Science, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles and their application within robotics, embedded,

or industrial automation systems.

- Experience in software/system architecture design and technical documentation.
- Ability to prepare architecture diagrams, interface definitions, data-flow diagrams, and system design documents.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle, coding standards, code reviews, version control, testing, and release practices.
- Familiarity with Git, Jenkins, Docker, CI/CD, and automated testing frameworks.
- Strong analytical, written, verbal, and technical communication skills.

- Preferred Experience

- Experience in a Project Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Architecture, or Systems Integration role within robotics, automation, or industrial systems.
- Familiarity with industrial standards and safety-critical software development practices.
- Exposure to functional safety standards and engineering compliance processes.
- Experience with communication and data acquisition optimisation in real-time robotic systems.
