Role & responsibilities
Position Summary The Production Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining production schedules to ensure customer orders are completed safely, on time, and efficiently.
This role serves as the primary link between Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Production, and
Logistics to balance customer demand with manufacturing capacity while optimizing inventory levels and production efficiency.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on customer demand,
inventory levels, and manufacturing capacity.
- Create and release manufacturing work orders.
- Monitor production progress and adjust schedules to address changes in demand, material shortages, equipment downtime, or labor availability.
- Balance production workloads across departments to maximize efficiency and resource utilization.
- Prioritize production based on customer commitments and business requirements.
Material Planning
- Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure raw materials and purchased components are available to support production schedules.
- Monitor inventory levels and identify shortages before they impact production.
- Work closely with Warehouse and Material Handling teams to ensure materials are staged and available for production.
- Recommend inventory improvements to reduce excess stock while preventing shortages.
Production Coordination
- Communicate production schedules and priorities with supervisors and department leaders.
- Participate in daily production meetings to review schedule adherence and production performance.
- Identify bottlenecks and recommend corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve production flow and reduce lead times.
ERP & Reporting
- Maintain accurate planning data within the ERP/MRP system.
- Generate production schedules, capacity reports, backlog reports, and inventory reports.
- Monitor production performance against schedule and report key performance indicators
(KPIs).
- Maintain accurate production planning records and documentation.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze production trends and recommend improvements to scheduling accuracy.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with production capacity planning for future growth.
- Participate in cross-functional projects to improve manufacturing efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production
Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 37 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, manufacturing engineering,
or supply chain planning.
- Experience working in a manufacturing workplace.
- Strong knowledge of production planning principles and manufacturing processes.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics,
or similar).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Knowledge of inventory management and material planning.
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication, industrial equipment manufacturing, or engineered products.
- Familiarity with production KPI reporting and capacity planning.
- Experience working in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position based at the manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune.
- Primarily office-based with regular presence on the production floor.
- Interaction with production personnel, suppliers, logistics providers, and corporate teams.
- Occasional extended hours may be required to meet production deadlines.
