Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Execution

Plan, schedule, and supervise daily production activities across the phycocyanin extraction line to meet output, quality, and delivery targets.

Coordinate with the cultivation/harvesting team to ensure consistent supply of fresh Spirulina biomass.

Oversee critical process stages

Homogenization

Aqueous extraction under controlled temperature and pH to preserve pigment-protein integrity.

Purification, Clarification & filtration, centrifugation, & drying (spray drying to prevent denaturation and color loss. Monitor batch yields and losses at each stage; optimize process parameters to maximize extraction efficiency and pigment recovery.

Quality & Compliance

Ensure production processes comply with GMP, HACCP, FSSAI, and relevant food safety/regulatory standards for natural colorants. And also maintain the plant during audits by BRC, and FSSC audits and customer audits. Work closely with the QA/QC team to maintain product specifications critical to phycocyanin: color value (A620/A280 purity ratio), moisture content, protein content, heavy metals, and microbial limits.

Maintain proper documentation: batch manufacturing records (BMRs), SOPs, and audit trails.

Team & Resource Management

Supervise shift supervisors, machine operators, and production staff. Plan manpower allocation, training, and performance evaluation.



Enforce workplace safety protocols and ensure adherence to EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) norms.

Process Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve phycocyanin yield and recovery.

Evaluate and implement recent equipment/technology upgrades and product trails in coordination with R&D; and engineering teams,

Reporting & Coordination

Prepare and present daily/weekly/monthly production reports (output, downtime, rejection rate, yield and recovery).

Liaise with R&D; for new product/process trials and scale-up activities.

Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive and breakdown maintenance planning.

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of algae/microalgae-based bioprocessing, specifically phycocyanin extraction from Spirulina.

Working knowledge of food safety systems: GMP, HACCP, FSSAI, ISO 22000; familiarity with natural colorant regulations (e.g., color additive standards for algae-derived pigments).

Proficiency in production planning tools/ERP systems ( SAP).

Strong leadership, team management, and problem-solving skills.

Analytical mindset with attention to yield, purity ratio (A620/A280), and cost metrics.

Good communication skills for cross-functional coordination (QA, R&D;, Cultivation/Harvesting, Supply Chain, Sales).

Qualifications & Experience

Education: B.Tech/B.E. in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology, Mechanical engineering.
