SARAL is Looking for:**** Why This Role We're looking for a senior backend engineer or technical leader who loves solving hard problems and building products customers genuinely value. This is a high-ownership seat in a lean startup: you'll set technical direction, mentor engineers, and ship production-grade systems — with real influence over what gets built and how.

What You'll Do

- Own backend architecture. Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable APIs and backend services that support rapid feature iteration.
- Raise the engineering bar. Run PR reviews, unblock junior engineers, and push the team toward cleaner, more reliable code.
- Drive technical decisions. Lead architecture discussions and help the team navigate complex engineering trade-offs.
- Optimize for scale. Improve performance, latency, throughput, and reliability as the product grows.
- Partner cross-functionally. Work closely with product, design, and leadership to turn requirements into shipped impact.
- Stay customer-obsessed. Understand why something is being built, not just how — we succeed when our customers succeed.

What You Bring

- 6+ years of backend engineering experience, with deep, hands-on expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, Express.js, and PostgreSQL — non-negotiable.
- 2+ years leading engineers — mentoring, code review, and driving technical execution.
- Strong system design instincts:



you think in terms of scalability, reliability, and maintainability, not just "does it work."
- Proven experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs in production.
- Solid command of SQL and database performance tuning — writing, analyzing, and optimizing complex queries.
- Working knowledge of caching strategies (Redis, Memcached, or similar).
- A bias for action — you're comfortable making calls and solving problems without a predefined playbook.
- Nice to have: hands-on AWS experience (EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, SQS).

How You'll Work

- Schedule: Flexible startup hours, roughly a 10-hour day (~9:30/10:00 AM – 8:00/8:30 PM). Weekends off.
- Environment: Fully remote, high-trust, high-ownership. You're expected to take initiative and own outcomes end to end.

Interview Process

- Profile Screening — Reviewed jointly by Head of Engineering and Founder; a shortlist from either moves forward.
- Technical Assignment — A hands-on exercise assessing engineering and problem-solving ability.
- Technical Round — with Head of Engineering
- Final Round — with Founder
