About the institutionBanaras Institute of Pharmacy was established in 2019 under the aegis of the Purwanchal Educational Trust. The institution is approved by the Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi, and affiliated to the Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh (BTEUP). It runs a two-year full-time Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm), built around a blend of theoretical instruction and sustained laboratory training.

The institution's academic infrastructure includes four discipline laboratories — Pharmaceutics for drug formulation and production, Pharmaceutical Chemistry with analytical and synthesis instrumentation, Pharmacognosy with an attached herbal garden, and Pharmacology — alongside a central library, an archive and museum of pharmacy and medicinal sciences, and technology-enabled classrooms. Teaching combines lectures, laboratory work, projects and seminars, supported by workshops, industrial visits and guest lectures.

The wider Trust has run regulated academic programmes at Babatpur for over two decades, including Banaras Institute of Teacher's Education, which has operated since 2003 with recognitions from NCTE and AICTE and affiliations to Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University. That institutional experience sits behind BIP — in a discipline where the regulatory bar is higher and less forgiving.

The role

You are the academic and administrative head of the institution and its accountable officer before the Pharmacy Council of India.

That accountability is the substance of the job, not a formality. The Principal's name, qualifications and signature carry PCI approval applications, inspection responses, and statutory returns. Faculty adequacy, laboratory compliance, infrastructure standards and student records are yours to certify — and to be right about.

Alongside it sits the ordinary work of building a pharmacy college that people want to send their children to: recruiting faculty who will stay, holding academic standards when it would be easier not to,



and putting graduates into jobs that justify what their families spent.

Responsibilities

Regulatory and statutory

- Serve as the institution's accountable head before the Pharmacy Council of India — approval, continuation of approval, inspections, and statutory compliance
- Maintain PCI-prescribed standards on faculty cadre and student-teacher ratio, laboratory and equipment adequacy, infrastructure, and library resources
- Lead inspection preparation and represent the institution during PCI and affiliating-body inspections
- Maintain compliance with the affiliating university and the State Pharmacy Council, including examination and registration requirements
- Ensure student eligibility, registration and records meet PCI norms throughout the programme lifecycle

Academic leadership

- Own academic delivery across the programmes offered — curriculum implementation, teaching quality, laboratory instruction, and assessment integrity
- Set and enforce academic standards; intervene where teaching or evaluation falls short
- Oversee practical and laboratory training, including compliance with safety, chemical handling and record-keeping requirements
- Direct hospital, industrial and community pharmacy training arrangements, and the partnerships they depend on
- Build a research culture appropriate to the institution's stage — publication, funded projects, and student research

Faculty

- Recruit, develop and retain faculty meeting PCI qualification norms across pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy and pharmacy practice
- Structure faculty development, mentoring and performance review
- Build a department structure that holds up under inspection and, more importantly, under teaching load

Institutional management

- Lead admissions strategy and student intake within regulatory and state counselling frameworks
- Own institutional planning, budgeting, and laboratory and infrastructure investment, with the Governing Body
- Direct placement and career development — industry, retail and hospital pharmacy, regulatory affairs, and higher study
- Build relationships with the pharmaceutical industry, hospitals,



regulatory bodies and professional associations across UP and Bihar
- Own student welfare, discipline, grievance redressal, and statutory committee constitution

Governance

- Report to the Governing Body on academic outcomes, compliance status, and institutional risk
- Provide honest early warning where compliance, faculty adequacy or intake is heading in the wrong direction

Qualifications

Essential — as per PCI norms

- First Class B.Pharm
- M.Pharm in an appropriate branch of specialisation in Pharmacy, or Pharm.D — PCI recognised
- Ph.D. in a Pharmacy subject — PCI recognised
- 15 years in teaching or research, of which at least 5 years as Professor or Head of Department at a PCI approved/recognised pharmacy college

All degrees must be from institutions whose qualifications are recognised by the Pharmacy Council of India. Original certificates and PCI registration will be verified before appointment.

Also essential

- Demonstrated experience of PCI inspection and approval processes — either leading them or holding substantial responsibility within them
- Track record of faculty recruitment and retention in pharmacy education
- Ability to lead an institution at an early stage of its development, not only to administer an established one
- Fluency in Hindi and English

Preferred

- Prior appointment as Principal, Director, or Vice-Principal at a pharmacy institution
- Experience establishing a new pharmacy programme or securing first-time PCI approval
- Substantial publication record and PhD supervision experience
- Experience with NAAC, NBA, or university affiliation processes
- Funded research, consultancy, or industry collaboration
- Pharmaceutical industry or hospital pharmacy experience alongside academic credentials
- Established relationships with pharmaceutical employers, hospitals, or regulatory bodies in UP, Bihar, or nationally
- Membership of professional bodies — IPA, APTI, or equivalent
