About The Role The Platform Reliability Engineer is a critical role within Tech Data’s enterprise operations, responsible for ensuring the stability, reliability, and continuous improvement of our enterprise platforms across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments. This engineering-driven position emphasizes automation, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), observability, and the reduction of operational toil.

The engineer will serve as the Level 3 escalation point for complex incidents, leading diagnosis, stabilization, and recovery efforts. They will work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance platform run posture, define service level objectives (SLOs), and develop strategies for proactive operational management. The role requires a proactive mindset, a strong technical foundation, and a commitment to operational excellence to support Tech Data’s mission of delivering seamless technology solutions to clients worldwide.

Qualifications Candidates should possess a minimum of five years of experience in platform engineering, site reliability engineering (SRE), or operations within large-scale, production environments. Hands-on experience managing hybrid cloud operations—combining cloud services with on-premises infrastructure—is essential.

Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform and Ansible, along with scripting skills in Python (preferred), PowerShell, or Bash, is required. Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting complex incidents, leading major incident responses, and conducting root cause analysis (RCA) is vital.



A strong understanding of infrastructure fundamentals including networking, virtualization, storage, and operating systems (Windows Server and Linux) is necessary.

Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) processes, particularly incident, problem, and change management, is also important. Knowledge of Azure cloud platform is preferred, along with experience in large, multinational, 24/7 operational environments. Valued additional skills include experience with virtualization, backup and disaster recovery operations, containers, DevOps practices, and ML/DL analytics for operational insights.

Responsibilities The Platform Reliability Engineer will oversee the reliability and operational health of Tech Data’s hybrid cloud and on-prem platforms.

Key responsibilities include owning the L3 reliability posture by defining and monitoring SLOs and KPIs, establishing operability gates, and maintaining comprehensive runbooks and SOPs. The role involves designing and building automation solutions for system health checks, remediation workflows, and infrastructure management using Terraform, Ansible, and scripting languages like Python. The engineer will lead diagnosis, stabilization, and recovery efforts during major incidents, driving problem management, RCA, and implementing preventive measures to reduce MTTR and MTTC.

Defining and tuning observability standards—such as alert quality, dashboards, and logging—is crucial for maintaining high operational visibility and reducing noise. The role also involves advancing AIOps capabilities through predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and capacity planning, leveraging Python-based analytics and ML/DL techniques where applicable. Additionally, the engineer will enable outsourced L1/L2 support teams by providing clear runbooks,



training, and governance, ensuring performance aligns with organizational standards.

Collaboration with Platform Engineering teams to incorporate operability into platform design, mentoring peers, and fostering a culture of engineering-led operational excellence are integral to this role.
