Role Description: The PhD Research Scholar in Integrated Photonics will conduct advanced research on photonic devices and systems, including design, modeling, fabrication, and characterization of integrated photonic components relevant to sensing, communication, or signal processing. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing literature reviews, developing theoretical and numerical models, running simulations, conducting laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and disseminating research through publications and conference presentations. The scholar will collaborate with faculty members, technical staff, and peers, assist in mentoring junior students,



and contribute to project documentation and reporting.

This is a full-time, on-site role based at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, requiring regular presence in laboratories and research facilities on campus.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in photonics, optics, and electromagnetics, with knowledge of integrated photonic devices and waveguide theory.
- Proficiency in simulation and modeling tools (e.g., COMSOL, Lumerical, MATLAB, Python) for photonic structure design and analysis.
- Experience with experimental photonics, including optical setup design, alignment, measurement, and data acquisition in a laboratory environment.
- Solid background in semiconductor physics, microfabrication or nanofabrication techniques, and familiarity with cleanroom processes is highly beneficial.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, including the ability to conduct independent and collaborative research.
- Strong scientific writing and communication skills for preparing research articles, theses, project reports, and presenting at conferences.
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Photonics, Optoelectronics, or a closely related discipline; eligibility as per IIT(ISM) PhD admission norms.
- Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary work, especially at the interface of integrated photonics with sensing, communication, or earth and energy applications.
