Role & responsibilities
1. Daily Operations & Logistics
Execute Lift Movements: Run single or twin-cage rack-and-pinion hoists smoothly using joystick or push-button VFD control panels.
Manage Site Logistics: Coordinate with various floor supervisors via intercom, two-way radio, or clear hand signaling systems to optimize wait times.
Control Traffic Flow: Supervise the orderly loading and unloading of personnel, tools, and raw materials (such as cement bags, blocks, and steel).
Maintain Operator Logs: Record daily usage charts, material trip tallies, shift handovers, and any mechanical irregularities in the official logbook.
2. Safety Enforcement & Load Management
Enforce Load Limits: Calculate total payload weight to strictly prevent the cage from exceeding its rated legal capacity (typically 1.0 to 2.0 tons).
Verify Load Balance: Ensure loose materials, heavy tools, and hardware are centered, stabilized, and secured before starting vertical travel.
Secure Cage Closures: Confirm all mechanical door locks and electrical gate interlocks are completely sealed before initiating movement.
Monitor Environmental Hazards: Suspend all operation immediately if wind speeds exceed safe limits (typically 60 km/h) or during heavy lightning storms.
3. Preventive Inspection & Maintenance Assistance
Conduct Pre-Shift Audits: Complete daily safety checklists monitoring the emergency stop buttons, backup brakes, and operational limit switches.
Perform Basic Maintenance: Keep the hoist cage floor, guide rollers, and base station enclosure free of concrete debris and trash.
Assist Engineering Crews: Report all abnormal sounds, jerky movements, or VFD fault alarms immediately to the technical maintenance team.
Preferred candidate profile
Technical Familiarity: Practical understanding of rack-and-pinion drive units, VFD controls, and progressive safety devices.
Spatial Awareness: Robust ability to accurately judge floor alignments and handle heavy materials safely within confined settings.
Communication: Clear verbal coordination skills to direct construction crews and manage high-stress site traffic.
Physical Stamina: Fitness to work inside an open or semi-enclosed cage for extended shifts under varying weather conditions.
Education, Experience, & Certifications
Experience: Minimum 2 to 5 years of proven experience operating dual-purpose/passenger hoists on large-scale commercial or residential projects.
Certification: Valid Hoist Operator License or Third-Party Competency Certificate issued by a certified industrial safety body.
Education: High school diploma, secondary education, or vocational ITI training is generally preferred.
Safety Training: Comprehensive knowledge of local site safety laws (e.g., BOCW Rules in India or OSHA guidelines internationally).
