Positions & Salary
Palliative Care Nurse
- Experience: 1–3 years
- Salary: ₹25,000–₹30,000 per month
Senior Palliative Care Nurse
- Experience: 3–5 years
- Salary: ₹35,000–₹40,000 per month
Salary within the respective range will be based on relevant experience, clinical skills and palliative/home-care experience.
Job Summary
We are looking for compassionate and clinically competent Palliative Care Nurses and Senior Palliative Care Nurses to provide nursing and supportive care to cancer patients and patients with serious or advanced illnesses.
This is a clinic-based and field-based position. Regular patient home visits are mandatory. Candidates must be willing to travel to patients’ homes within the assigned service area.
The role includes pain and symptom assessment, nursing procedures, patient monitoring, caregiver education, home-based nursing care, end-of-life supportive care and coordination with doctors and the multidisciplinary clinical team.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduled and need-based patient home visits.
- Assess vital signs, pain, symptoms and overall clinical condition.
- Monitor pain, breathlessness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, fatigue, weakness, appetite and other symptoms.
- Provide nursing interventions and administer prescribed medications within the authorized scope of practice.
- Perform wound care, pressure-sore care, catheter care, stoma care and other appropriate nursing procedures.
- Identify clinical deterioration and promptly escalate to the treating doctor.
- Provide comfort-focused and supportive nursing care for patients with advanced cancer and other serious illnesses.
- Support patients requiring palliative and end-of-life care.
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding medication adherence, nutrition, hydration, hygiene, positioning, mobility and symptom monitoring.
- Explain warning signs requiring immediate medical attention or hospitalization.
- Coordinate with oncologists, palliative-care physicians, nurses, counsellors and other healthcare professionals.
- Follow up with patients and caregivers as per the prescribed care plan.
- Coordinate clinic visits, investigations, pharmacy requirements, hospital referrals and other services where required.
- Maintain accurate documentation of every home visit and nursing intervention.
- Follow infection-control, biomedical-waste, medication-safety and patient-safety protocols.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.
Additional Responsibilities – Senior Palliative Care Nurse In addition to the above responsibilities, Senior Palliative Care Nurses will be expected to:
- Independently assess and manage assigned palliative-care nursing cases within the approved clinical protocols.
- Handle more complex home-care cases under physician supervision.
- Identify and escalate clinical deterioration and high-risk situations.
- Guide and support junior nurses in patient-care activities.
- Review nursing documentation and ensure adherence to clinical protocols.
- Assist in planning and coordinating home visits.
- Support training and orientation of junior nursing staff.
- Coordinate closely with doctors for complex symptom-management and end-of-life-care patients.
- Support improvement of palliative-care nursing protocols and quality standards.
Qualification
- GNM or B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid Nursing Council registration.
Experience Palliative Care Nurse: 1–3 years of nursing experience.
Senior Palliative Care Nurse: 3–5 years of nursing experience.
Previous experience in palliative care, oncology, hospice care, home healthcare, ICU, medical-surgical nursing or chronic disease care is preferred.
Mandatory Requirements
- Willingness to undertake regular patient home visits.
- Willingness to travel within the assigned service area.
- Comfortable independently visiting patients at their residences.
- Valid Nursing Council registration.
- Good clinical assessment and nursing skills.
- Ability to recognize deterioration and escalate appropriately.
- Good patient and caregiver communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate clinical and home-visit documentation.
