Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Lead/Specialist to design, implement, and oversee our enterprise data governance framework. In this role, you will be responsible for defining data standards, establishing data quality rules, enforcing compliance, and fostering a data-driven culture. You will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and security teams to ensure our data assets are high quality, secure, and compliant with global privacy regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Framework Development: Establish and operationalize the enterprise data governance strategy, policies, data architecture standards, and domain-specific stewardship models.
- Data Lineage & Cataloging: Implement and maintain enterprise data catalogs, business glossaries, metadata repositories, and data lineage mapping using up-to-date data governance tools.
- Data Quality Management: Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to define data quality metrics, establish continuous monitoring, and run remediation workflows for data defects.
- Data Stewardship & Ownership: Identify and train Business Data Owners and Stewards across various departments (Finance, Marketing, Product) to enforce ownership and accountability.
- Compliance & Privacy: Partner with Legal, Risk, and InfoSec teams to ensure data practices comply with relevant data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.) and enterprise security policies.
- Access Control & Classification: Define standards for data classification (e.g., PII, Restricted, Public) and oversee role-based data access policies (RBAC/ABAC).
- Change Management: Promote a culture of data literacy and accountability across the organization through training, documentation,
and stakeholder engagement.
Required Qualifications & Skills Experience & Technical Skills
- Education: Bachelors or Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- Experience: 4+ years in Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Architecture, or Enterprise Information Management.
- Governance Tools: Hands-on experience with top-tier Data Governance and Data Catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica Axon, Microsoft Purview, Atlan).
- Data Analytics & SQL: Strong proficiency in SQL to query data structures, evaluate data quality, and understand relational/non-relational database schemas.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of global data privacy and protection regulations (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOC 2).
- Data Architecture Awareness: Familiarity with modern data stack architectures (Data Warehouses like Snowflake/BigQuery, Data Lakes, and ETL/ELT pipelines).
Soft Skills
- Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical engineering teams.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical thinking to identify data discrepancies, root causes, and systemic risks.
- Program Management: Proven track record of running cross-functional data initiatives and change management programs.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Certifications in Data Management or Privacy:
- CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional)
- CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional)
- DAMA (Data Management Association) certifications
- Experience with Data Mesh or Data Products governance frameworks.
- Knowledge of master data management (MDM) concepts and tools.
