We are hiring a senior software engineer to join the AI Runtime & Reliability pillar within Foundations Engineering - AI Production Engineering. In this role, you will design and implement backend systems that ensure AI-powered services operate reliably under real-world traffic conditions.

You will focus on resilience patterns, performance instrumentation, load validation, and runtime optimisations that harden AI systems built by AI Core Engineering. This role is hands-on and execution-focused, contributing directly to distributed system reliability and production readiness for AI workloads. The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions: Backend Reliability Engineering:

- Implement resilience patterns including retries, circuit breakers, and fallback logic.
- Build runtime instrumentation for latency, error rates, and throughput monitoring.
- Contribute to concurrency modelling and load validation efforts.
- Optimise backend systems for predictable performance under AI workloads.

Performance and Scalability

- Profile and tune backend services for improved AI response latency.
- Support capacity modelling for AI-dependent workflows.
- Assist in provider failover and redundancy implementations.

Observability and Production Support

- Integrate logging, tracing, and monitoring for AI services.
- Support debugging and incident investigations related to runtime reliability.
- Contribute to reliability dashboards and SLO reporting. Collaboration - Partner closely with AI Core engineers to validate runtime readiness.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams to ensure production compliance.
- Participate in design discussions and implementation trade-off analysis.

Requirements

- 5+ years of backend software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Experience building and operating distributed backend systems.
- Familiarity with observability tools (metrics,



logging, tracing).
- Experience implementing scalable APIs and microservices.
- Understanding of cloud-native system design patterns.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience supporting AI-powered services in production.
- Experience working with rate-limited external APIs.
- Exposure to performance profiling and load testing tools.
- Familiarity with SLO-based service monitoring.

Experience with

- Backend APIs and microservices in distributed systems environments.
- Implementing resilience patterns such as retries, timeouts, and fallback logic.
- Observability tooling, including metrics dashboards, logging, and tracing systems.
- Performance profiling and load testing tools.
- Working with external or rate-limited APIs.
- Cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for backend services.

Required Education

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field (Master's preferred), or equivalent experience.
