– Maintenance Head – Service IndustryPosition: Maintenance Head

Position OverviewWe are looking for an experienced Maintenance Head to lead end-to-end maintenance and service operations for a large fleet of vehicles, equipment, and operational assets. The role will be responsible for ensuring maximum asset availability, minimizing breakdowns and downtime, optimizing maintenance costs, and driving operational excellence across service locations.
The ideal candidate should have strong experience in fleet maintenance, preventive and breakdown maintenance, workshop/depot operations, spare-parts management, manpower planning, vendor management, cost control, and maintenance KPI management.
Key Responsibilities1. Maintenance &
- Asset Management
- Lead overall maintenance activities for fleet, vehicles, plant, machinery, and other operational assets.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
- Ensure maximum fleet/equipment availability and minimum downtime.
- Monitor breakdowns, identify recurring failures, and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Establish standard maintenance practices, checklists and maintenance SOPs.
- Monitor equipment health and utilization through available telematics/monitoring systems.
2. Fleet & • Workshop Operations
- Lead workshop/service centre operations and ensure timely servicing and repairs.
- Monitor daily vehicle/equipment availability and deployment readiness.
- Ensure timely resolution of breakdowns and reduce turnaround time (TAT).
- Coordinate with operations teams to minimize service disruption and operational losses.
- Drive service camps and preventive maintenance initiatives to improve asset reliability.
- Ensure proper utilization of workshops, tools, equipment and technical resources.

• KPI Management
- Prepare annual and monthly maintenance plans and budgets.
- Monitor key maintenance KPIs such as:
- Fleet / Asset Availability
- Breakdown Frequency
- MTBF / MTTR
- Preventive Maintenance Compliance
- Maintenance Cost per KM / Asset
- Downtime
- TAT for Breakdown Closure
- Spare Parts Consumption
- Conduct periodic performance reviews and implement improvement plans.

Parts &
• Inventory Management
- Plan and forecast requirements for spare parts, tyres, batteries, lubricants and consumables.
- Ensure optimum inventory levels and avoid stock-outs as well as excess inventory.
- Monitor parts consumption and maintenance costs.
- Coordinate with Purchase and Stores teams for timely availability of critical spares.
- Develop controls to reduce unnecessary parts consumption and repair costs.
5. Cost Control & • Budget Management
- Prepare and monitor maintenance budgets.
- Control repair, maintenance, fuel, spare-parts and external agency costs.
- Analyze maintenance cost trends and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Monitor Cost per KM / Cost per Asset and drive continuous improvement.
- Evaluate external repair and service agencies based on cost, quality and turnaround time.
6. Team Leadership & • Manpower Management
- Lead and manage maintenance managers, workshop/service managers, engineers, supervisors, technicians and support teams.
- Plan manpower requirements based on fleet size and operational requirements.
- Develop technical capabilities through training and skill development programs.
- Establish performance targets and conduct regular team reviews.
- Build a strong culture of safety, accountability, productivity and continuous improvement.
7. Vendor & • Service Partner Management
- Manage OEMs, service partners, repair agencies and other maintenance vendors.
- Negotiate service requirements, turnaround time and commercial terms in coordination with the concerned functions.
- Monitor vendor performance against agreed KPIs and SLAs.
- Ensure timely warranty and claim management.
8. Safety & • Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety and statutory requirements related to vehicles, workshops and equipment.
- Conduct regular maintenance and safety inspections.
- Ensure proper documentation and maintenance records.
- Coordinate with EHS and Operations teams to maintain protected working conditions.

Improvement
- Identify opportunities for improving asset reliability, productivity and operational efficiency.
- Implement root-cause analysis for repeated breakdowns.
- Introduce digital maintenance monitoring, telematics and data-driven maintenance practices.
- Benchmark maintenance practices and adopt best industry practices.
- Drive initiatives to reduce breakdowns, downtime, penalties and overall operating costs.

- Maintain high fleet and asset availability.
- Reduce breakdown frequency and downtime.
- Improve preventive maintenance compliance.
- Reduce MTTR and improve MTBF.
- Optimize maintenance cost per KM / asset.
- Ensure timely availability of critical spare parts.
- Improve workshop productivity and manpower utilization.
- Ensure timely breakdown response and closure.
- Improve service quality and operational reliability.
- Ensure 100% compliance with maintenance and safety procedures.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Education: B.E./B.Tech – Mechanical / Automobile Engineering preferred.
- Experience: 12–18 years of relevant experience in fleet maintenance, service operations, workshop/depot management, automotive, equipment maintenance or a similar service-intensive industry.
- Experience in managing large vehicle fleets / heavy equipment / workshops will be preferred.
- Strong experience in preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance.
- Experience in maintenance budgeting, cost control and spare-parts management.
- Strong people-management and leadership capabilities.
- Good understanding of maintenance KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, availability, downtime and maintenance cost.
- Exposure to telematics, fleet monitoring systems and digital maintenance tools will be an advantage.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Willingness to travel across operational locations as required.
Ideal Candidate BackgroundCandidates from Automotive, Fleet Management, Transportation, Logistics, Waste Management, Equipment Rental, Infrastructure, Construction, Public Transport, Facility/Service Operations or similar asset-intensive industries would be suitable.
