Highly skilled Lead Embedded Engineer to drive the technical design and execution of our projects. The incumbent in this role will act as the technical anchor for the engineering team, turning high-level design concepts into production-ready firmware and hardware solutions. He/She will be responsible for defining system architectures, writing robust production-grade code, conducting thorough code reviews, and mentoring senior and junior engineers to ensure execution excellence.
1. Primary Responsibilities
a) Architecture & Technical Design: Define and document robust, scalable architectures for microcontrollers and microprocessors, choosing between bare-metal, RTOS, or embedded Linux environments. b)Hands-on Development: Write clean, efficient, and reliable C/C++ production code for memory-constrained and real-time execution environments.
c) Technical Governance: Lead firmware and code reviews, champion coding standards (e.g., MISRA C), and establish automated unit testing and continuous integration (CI/CD) workflows.
d)Hardware & Systems Debugging: Collaborate tightly with hardware engineers to bring up new PCB boards, analyse schematics, and debug hardware-software boundary issues using logic analysers, scopes, and JTAG debuggers.
e) Team Mentorship: Act as the primary technical point of contact for the engineering team, providing technical direction, unblocking daily technical hurdles, and mentoring junior engineers.
f) Sprint & Project Delivery: Work alongside Project and Product Managers to break down complex product requirements into actionable engineering tasks, estimate story points, and commit to sprint goals.
g) Adhere to project goals, applicable standards and regulations, the QMS and related processes (CE, FDA, MDR…)
h) Create documentation according to regulatory requirements in the strongly regulated field for medical devices, like requirements, specifications, risk analysis and verification documents
2.Secondary Responsibilities a)
Stay ahead of industry trends and evaluate the usage of same in our processes and design b) Work with external vendors as and when needed to get the project delivered in time c) Coordinate and work with cross functional global teams and provide leadership to the team d) Evaluate field issues reported and provide cost effective and timely solution(s).
e) Support of trouble shooting in production related to software issues f) Sustaining of existing products / systems to ensure stable and reliable operations as part of the product lifecycle management process
- Job Requirements a.) Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering.
b.) Experience
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in embedded systems development, preferably within the medical devices industry.
- Programming Mastery: Expert proficiency in C and C++, with a deep understanding of memory management, interrupt handling, and low-level optimization.
- Peripherals & Protocols: Comprehensive knowledge of low-level communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB) and networking/wireless stacks (Wi-Fi, BLE, Zigbee, or TCP/IP).
- Development Environments: Strong experience working with RTOS kernels (e.g., FreeRTOS, ThreadX) or writing low-level drivers in Linux kernel space.
- Tools: Expert user of Git, Azure, and standard embedded IDEs (e.g., STM32CubeIDE, IAR, Keil, VS Code).
- Familiarity with hardware design tools (Altium Designer) to understand, review and evaluate schematics and board layouts.
- Good understanding of ISO 13485 and Good Documentation Practices
- Proficient knowledge of IEC 62304 and IEC 60601-1
