Position: Lead Design Engineer Industrial Valves & Valve Automation
Department: Engineering & Design
Reports To: Engineering Manager / Head Engineering
Job Purpose To design, develop, and improve industrial valves and valve automation systems in compliance with customer specifications, international standards, and company quality requirements. The Design Engineer is responsible for preparing engineering drawings, calculations, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation while supporting manufacturing, quality, procurement, and sales teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
- Design industrial valves including Ball, Gate, Globe, Check, Butterfly, Knife Gate, and Special Service Valves.
- Design valve automation assemblies using pneumatic, electric, hydraulic actuators, and gear operators.
- Develop new products and customize existing designs based on customer requirements.
- Standardize valve components to improve manufacturability and reduce costs.
Engineering Design
- Prepare: General Arrangement Drawings, Manufacturing Drawings, Assembly Drawings, Sectional Drawings,
Machining Drawings, Part Drawings, Exploded Views, Installation Drawings
- Generate complete Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Prepare engineering calculations for pressure-containing components and mechanical parts.
- Review customer specifications, datasheets, P&IDs;, and engineering standards.
Design Calculations
- Valve wall thickness calculations
- Stem design calculations
- Bolt and flange calculations
- Pressure-retaining component calculations
- Torque calculations
- Actuator sizing calculations
- Gearbox sizing
- Packing and gasket selection
- Flow coefficient (Cv/Kv) calculations (where applicable)
Valve Automation Engineering
- Select suitable actuators:
- Design mounting brackets and coupling assemblies.
- Select accessories: Solenoid valves, Positioners, Limit switch boxes, Air filter regulators, Lock-up valve, Quick exhaust valves, Manual overrides
- Ensure compliance with ISO 5211 and actuator mounting standards.
Standards & Compliance
Ensure product designs comply with applicable international standards, including:
ASME B16.34, API 6D, API 600, API 602, API 608, API 609, API 598, ISO 17292, BS 1868, ASME B16.5,ASME B16.10
ASME B16.25, ASME B16.47, ISO 5211, ISO 15848 (Fugitive Emissions), ISO 10497 / API 607 (Fire Protected), MSS Standards, PED (where applicable),Customer specifications (EIL, ONGC, IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL, etc.)
Documentation
Prepare and maintain: Design calculations, Design verification reports, Material specifications, Technical datasheets, Valve datasheets, Manufacturing specifications, Inspection requirements, Design revision records, Engineering Change Notes (ECN), Design Change Requests (DCR)
Cross-Functional Coordination
Coordinate with: Sales & Application Engineering, Production, CNC Programming, Quality Assurance & Quality Control, Procurement, Planning, Vendor Development, Testing & Inspection, Customers and third-party inspection agencies
Provide technical support during manufacturing, assembly, testing, inspection, and customer FAT.
Product Improvement
- Analyze field failures and customer feedback.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA).
- Recommend design improvements.
- Optimize designs for cost, performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Support value engineering initiatives.

- AutoCAD Plant 3D (Preferred)

Required Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering may be considered with relevant experience.
- 2– 5 years of experience in industrial valve design and development.
Knowledge Requirements
Valve design standards, Pressure class selection, Material standards (ASTM, ASME), Corrosion-resistant materials
NACE requirements (where applicable), Fire-safe valve design, Fugitive emission requirements, Actuator sizing principles, Torque calculations, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) basics (preferred)
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
On-time completion of engineering drawings, Accuracy of drawings and BOMs, Number of engineering revisions
First-pass manufacturing success rate, Design-related non-conformities, Product development lead time, Cost reduction through design optimization, Customer approval success rate, Technical support responsiveness

- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, Attention to detail & Effective communication skills
