Position: Lab In-Charge

Department: Quality Control / Quality Assurance

Industry: Poultry Feed Manufacturing

Reporting To: Plant Head / QA-QC Manager

1. Job Purpose

To ensure the quality, safety, and consistency of raw materials, finished poultry feed, and in-process materials through systematic sampling, laboratory testing, documentation, and compliance with company quality standards.
1. Key Responsibilities

A. Raw Material Quality Control

- Inspect and sample incoming raw materials such as maize, soybean meal, rice bran, DDGS, DORB, minerals, vitamins, oil, etc.
- Conduct physical and laboratory tests as per approved specifications.
- Check parameters such as moisture, protein, fat, fiber, ash, calcium, phosphorus, salt, and other applicable parameters.
- Identify rejected, substandard, contaminated, or adulterated materials and report them to management.
- Maintain records of raw-material test results and supplier-wise quality performance.

B. In-Process Quality Control

- Monitor quality at different stages of feed manufacturing.
- Check grinding, mixing, pelleting, cooling, and other relevant processes.
- Ensure proper sampling and testing of mash/pellet feed.
- Monitor pellet quality, moisture, particle size, durability, and other specified parameters.

C. Finished Feed Testing

- Analyze finished poultry feed according to established specifications.
- Verify nutritional and physical parameters before product release.
- Ensure that only approved batches are released for dispatch.
- Investigate deviations and coordinate corrective actions with Production and QA/QC teams.

D. Laboratory Management

- Maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, glassware, reagents, and chemicals.




- Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, safety, and good housekeeping.
- Ensure testing is performed according to approved SOPs and methods.
- Maintain adequate stock of reagents, chemicals, and laboratory consumables.

E. Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain daily laboratory test reports and batch-wise quality records.
- Prepare COA/quality reports wherever required.
- Maintain records of rejected materials, deviations, corrective actions, and retesting.
- Maintain proper traceability of samples and test results.
- Submit daily/weekly/monthly quality reports to management.

F. Microbiology / Contamination Control

- Monitor microbiological quality wherever applicable.
- Coordinate testing for Salmonella, E. coli, mold, yeast, and other relevant parameters.
- Monitor contamination risks in raw materials and finished feed.
- Ensure proper sample handling and laboratory hygiene.

G. Coordination

- Coordinate with Purchase for raw-material quality issues.
- Coordinate with Production regarding process and finished-feed quality.
- Coordinate with Stores for proper segregation of rejected/approved materials.
- Communicate quality deviations immediately to the Plant Head/QA Manager.

1. Authority

- Recommend acceptance or rejection of raw materials based on laboratory results.
- Hold finished-feed batches that do not meet specifications.




- Stop or escalate a quality-related issue when it may affect product safety or quality.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions for recurring quality problems.

1. Required Qualification

- B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Animal Nutrition, or a related field.
- Experience in a poultry feed, animal feed, food, or related quality-control laboratory is preferred.

1. Required Skills

- Knowledge of feed raw materials and nutritional parameters.
- Good understanding of laboratory testing procedures.
- Knowledge of SOPs, sampling procedures, calibration, and documentation.
- Basic computer knowledge, especially MS Excel and Word.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage laboratory staff and coordinate with production teams.
- Strong attention to detail and quality consciousness.

1. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Accuracy and timely completion of laboratory testing.
- Raw-material rejection/acceptance accuracy.
- Finished-feed quality compliance.
- Reduction in customer quality complaints.
- Laboratory documentation accuracy.
- Timely calibration and maintenance of equipment.
- Compliance with SOPs and safety requirements.
- Effective control of quality deviations.

1. Working Conditions

- Full-time position at the poultry feed manufacturing plant.
- Regular interaction with Production, Stores, Purchase, and QA/QC departments.
- Must follow laboratory, plant, chemical-handling, PPE, and workplace safety procedures.

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
