Role Summary :
We're hiring a CAD/Industrial Design Engineer to own enclosure design end-to-end from concept sketching and CMF direction through production-grade 3D CAD, prototyping, DFM and vendor tooling, all the way to compliance and certification. You'll translate user research and ergonomic insights into manufacturable, compliant designs, working across SolidWorks/Fusion 360/Rhino/Creo/NX/Catia/AutoCAD with GD&T; rigor, and partner closely with vendors, PLM systems and test labs to take products from first sketch to certified, production-ready hardware.
Key Responsibilities
Concept Development & Design Direction:
- Drive concept ideation through sketching, mood boards and design exploration, defining the product design language and visual direction across the portfolio.
- Lead CMF (Color, Material, Finish) development including material sourcing and finish specification translating user research and ergonomic insights into refined forms.
3D Modeling & Visualization:
- Build production-grade 3D CAD across plastics, sheet metal and surfacing (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino 3D, Creo, UG NX, Catia V5 or AutoCAD), defining ergonomics, form factors and tolerancing aligned to manufacturing constraints.
- Apply GD&T; (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis to lock down fits, clearances and assembly tolerances.
- Create photorealistic renders in Keyshot for design reviews and stakeholder buy-in.
Prototyping & DFM Collaboration:
- Build and iterate physical prototypes via 3D printing and rapid prototyping, validating ergonomics, fit and finish ahead of tooling.
- Collaborate with teams on DFM, part splits and assembly optimization, applying working knowledge of injection moulding,
sheet metal and casting/moulding to keep enclosures manufactural and tooling-friendly.
Production & Vendor Coordination:
- Partner with vendors on tooling, finishing and production finalization, driving design intent through tooling reviews, first-article inspections and golden samples.
- Own production-ready documentation — CMF specs, assembly intent, detailed production drawings (sectional and general-arrangement), tool-design documentation and BOMs with GD&T.;
Engineering Data, Drawings & PLM:
- Manage engineering data, revisions and BOMs in PLM/PDM systems (Windchill, Symphony, PDM or similar), keeping records controlled and traceable.
- Run ECAD–MCAD conversion to bring PCB and electronics data into the enclosure model, ensuring fit, clearances and assembly alignment.
Compliance-Driven Enclosure Design:
- Design enclosures for compliance from the outset — UL94 flammability, creepage/clearance, electrical insulation, IP sealing/gasketing to target rating, and EMI/EMC provisions (shielding, grounding, aperture control).
- Specify regulatory marking and label placement.
Certification Planning & Testing:
- Identify applicable certifications and standards per product and market — BIS/CRS, WPC/ETA, TEC (India); CE, FCC, UL, RoHS (export) — and plan pre-compliance and formal test campaigns (EMI/EMC, electrical safety per IEC 62368, environmental).
- Coordinate sample submission and interface with NABL-accredited test labs and certification bodies.
Compliance Documentation & Issue Resolution:
- Maintain a per-project compliance matrix and technical files — test reports, declarations of conformity, material declarations and labelling artwork.
- On test failures, drive the corrective-action loop with hardware, firmware and mechanical teams and manage retest without slipping the timeline.
