Job Purpose The Project Engineer – MEP & HVAC will be responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and supervising all hospital-related MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) and HVAC works. The role involves managing design coordination, project execution, contractors, technicians, and labour to ensure all engineering works are completed safely, efficiently, and as per hospital standards, approved drawings, specifications, and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

- MEP & HVAC Project Management
- Plan, execute, and monitor all MEP and HVAC projects, modifications, installations, and maintenance-related works within the hospital.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal departments for project execution.
- Ensure projects are completed within the approved timeline, budget, quality, and safety requirements.
- MEP Design & Engineering
- Review and coordinate MEP design drawings, layouts, technical specifications, and BOQs.
- Coordinate HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, medical gas, and other building services with architectural and structural requirements.
- Identify design issues, site constraints, and technical requirements before execution.
- Ensure proper coordination between various engineering services to avoid clashes and rework.
- HVAC Systems
- Handle hospital HVAC systems including AHUs, FCUs, chillers, ventilation systems, exhaust systems, ducting, piping, and associated equipment.
- Supervise HVAC installation, testing, commissioning, balancing, and performance verification.
- Ensure HVAC systems meet hospital-specific requirements for critical areas such as OT, ICU, NICU, isolation rooms, laboratories, and other clinical areas.
- Monitor temperature, humidity, air changes, pressure differentials, and ventilation requirements as applicable.
- Electrical & Plumbing Coordination
- Coordinate electrical and plumbing works associated with hospital projects and modifications.
- Supervise installation and modification of power supply, lighting, panels, cabling, water supply, drainage, pumps, and related systems.
- Coordinate with specialized agencies wherever technical works require external expertise.
- Labour & Workforce Management
- Plan and allocate manpower based on project requirements and daily work schedules.
- Supervise technicians, electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, helpers, and contract labour.




- Assign daily work responsibilities and monitor productivity and work quality.
- Ensure adequate manpower is available to complete assigned works within timelines.
- Maintain discipline, attendance, safety, and productivity of the workforce.
- Site Supervision
- Conduct regular site inspections and monitor ongoing engineering works.
- Ensure work is executed as per approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and quality standards.
- Verify materials, equipment, workmanship, and installation practices.
- Identify and resolve site-level technical issues promptly.
- Hospital Operations Coordination
- Coordinate engineering works without disrupting critical hospital operations and patient care.
- Plan shutdowns, maintenance activities, and major works in consultation with concerned HODs.
- Ensure appropriate precautions are taken while carrying out work in patient care areas.
- Coordinate with Infection Control, Nursing, Administration, Biomedical, Fire & Safety, and other departments wherever required.
- Vendor & Contractor Management
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, consultants, and service providers.
- Monitor contractor performance, manpower deployment, work progress, and quality.
- Verify work completion and assist in checking contractor bills against actual work executed.
- Ensure vendors comply with hospital safety and operational requirements.
- Project Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare daily/weekly project progress reports.
- Maintain project drawings, BOQs, work orders, inspection reports, test reports, commissioning documents, and other technical records.
- Maintain records of materials used, manpower deployed, project progress, and pending works.
- Prepare project completion and handover documentation.
- Maintenance & Breakdown Support
- Coordinate with the hospital engineering/maintenance team for major MEP and HVAC breakdowns.
- Analyze recurring technical issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance planning for MEP and HVAC systems.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all engineering and project activities comply with applicable hospital safety standards and statutory requirements.
- Ensure workers use appropriate PPE and follow safe working practices.




- Coordinate with the Safety/Quality team for required inspections and corrective actions.
- Ensure proper work permits, isolation procedures, and safety precautions are followed for high-risk activities.
- Quality & Commissioning
- Conduct inspections and ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the project.
- Coordinate testing and commissioning of newly installed or modified systems.
- Ensure all defects/snags are identified and closed before project handover.
- Ensure as-built drawings and technical documentation are obtained upon completion.

Key Skills & Competencies

- Strong knowledge of MEP and HVAC systems
- Hospital engineering/project execution experience
- Knowledge of HVAC design, installation, testing, and commissioning
- Ability to read and interpret MEP/HVAC drawings
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and basic engineering software
- Strong site supervision and project coordination skills
- Labour and contractor management skills
- Vendor management and negotiation skills
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
- Good communication and coordination skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of hospital engineering requirements and critical areas
- Robust documentation and reporting skills

Qualification

- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Additional certification in HVAC / MEP / Project Management will be an advantage.

Experience

- 3–8 years of relevant experience in MEP/HVAC/project execution.
- Experience in hospital, healthcare, commercial building, or large facility projects is preferred.
- Candidates with strong experience in hospital MEP/HVAC works and labour/contractor handling will be preferred.
