Position Description Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Homologation Engineer to join the Homologation and Safety Test Team. You will lead the end-to-end homologation and type-approval process for Tesla vehicles and components in India (from design compliance planning through certification, launch support and Conformity of Production (CoP)).

You will collaborate with engineering, design, manufacturing, supply chain, and program teams to ensure compliance with Indian regulations (CMVR, AIS, BIS (CRO & ) and secure certifications from agencies such as ARAI, ICAT, and MoRTH. You will identify and close gaps between India and EU/FMVSS requirements, drive local component homologation, and ensure marking, labeling, and CoP obligations are met to support successful product launches.

You will work closely with global homologation and safety teams and use Confluence, JIRA, and AI-assisted workflows to manage testing, documentation, regulatory submissions, and cross-functional action tracking in a quick-paced launch workplace.

Key Responsibilities Regulatory Strategy & Certification

- Own India type approval execution for assigned vehicle programs and components, including preparation, review, and submission of whole-vehicle and component certification documentation.
- Ensure adherence to applicable Indian standards and rules, including CMVR, AIS, BIS, and EV-specific requirements.
- Lead India vs EU/FMVSS gap analysis; define compliance paths, design changes, and evidence plans where Indian requirements differ from existing global approvals.
- Drive local component homologation for supplier parts and India-specific content, maintaining traceability to vehicle approval. Design Integration & Cross-Functional Support
- Integrate India-specific functional, marking,



and labeling requirements into product development, design reviews, BOM changes, supplier releases, and manufacturing processes.
- Partner with engineering and allied functional groups to validate regulatory interpretations, close design gaps, and deliver evidence required for certification and production release. Testing & Certification Execution
- Plan, coordinate, and track homologation testing across crash/occupant protection, range and energy consumption, EMC, battery safety and high-voltage systems, charging systems, and functional/system-level tests.
- Manage test vehicle and component readiness, test matrices, witness testing, retests, and non-conformance closure with regulatory agencies; analyze results, drive corrective actions, and support resubmission until approval is secured. CoP & Post-Approval Compliance
- Establish and maintain whole-vehicle CoP plans (sampling, audit readiness, change control, production consistency), including CoP testing/surveillance and production marking/label verification.
- Manage running changes, variant extensions, and local configuration updates within approved certification scope. Regulatory Monitoring, Reporting & Audits
- Represent Tesla interest in regulatory forum
- Monitor updates to Indian automotive and EV regulations, MoRTH notifications, AIS/BIS revisions, and agency procedural changes; assess program impact and communicate timelines, risks,



and required actions.
- Maintain certification records, submission logs, test evidence, gap registers, and traceability; prepare status reports and certification updates for internal and regulatory stakeholders.
- Support internal audits, agency audits, and post-certification surveillance; drive corrective and preventive actions and verify closure.
- Report to the APAC Homologation Lead on milestones, risks, and launch-critical path items. Operational, Financial & Asset Management
- Manage homologation budgets, test fees, agency payments, and vendor invoicing in coordination with finance.
- Own logistics, storage, registration, and chain-of-custody for homologation test vehicles, prototypes, and components in country.
- Coordinate import/export, customs clearance, and local transport for test assets; manage lab and agency scheduling and vendor delivery. Software, OTA & Regulatory Interpretation
- Support homologation impact assessment for software updates and OTA releases for both product improvements and recalls.
- Challenge outdated regulatory interpretations using sound technical judgment while documenting rationale and align with global homologation teams. Stakeholder Alignment & Market Support
- Align with local Sales, Service, Policy and Legal on certification scope, market requirements, field issues, and regulatory communications.
- Manage VAHAN system Requirements:- 3–5 yrs India automotive homologation, EV experience, CMVR/AIS/BIS/MoRTH, ARAI/ICAT.
- Experience of working with India type approval authorities (ARAI/ICAT)
- Experience in Confluence, JIRA, AI-assisted documentation.
- BE/ME in Mechanical/Electrical/Automotive
