Business Title: Manager – Safety & Health

Reports to (position): Plant Head

Global Function: Industrial Operations

Job location: Nellore (Andhra Pradesh)

Role The primary function of the Safety Manager is to promote occupational health and safety awareness, monitor satisfactory completion of occupational health and safety related actions, including risk assessments and training. The Safety Officer will also share good practices across the system on occupational health and safety matters and disseminate information within his/her own areas and across the system as appropriate

Main Accountabilities:

- Ensure compliance with legal obligations and company requirements. Track and regularly report the status of regulatory compliance and improvement initiatives to Plant Head.
- Maintain the facility H&S; compliance records.
- Review statutory regulation changes that impact H&S-related; compliance.
- Be the primary contact for plant-related H&S; issues. Assists plant leadership and staff in understanding H&S; regulations and standards, including guidance on handling H&S; compliance, inspections, and citations. Advise and lead to incorporate environmental health and safety principles and concepts to prevent workplace, operational hazards and environmental impacts
- Advise and assist the plant head and other persons concerned in planning, organizing, controlling and maintaining activities to ensure a safe and healthy environment for work including setting objectives
- Maintain the area risk register and ensure that risk assessments are completed for all activities with significant risks




- To implement Company’s Occupational Health and Safety Procedures and develop local work procedures related to Health & Safety to comply with legal obligations and company requirements
- Manage monthly Safety Steering Committee meetings to improve plant safety.
- To advise plant head in ensuring that their area has key staff appointed to carry out the health and safety functions e.g. risk assessors, first aiders, fire wardens etc.,
- Ensure staff moves and relocation are risk assessed and planned
- Contractor Management – Plant: Guide in implementing systems for identification, induction and access control working closely with the contractors’ representatives
- Contractor Management – Project Contractors: Guide in implementing construction safety systems through contractor safety coordinators
- Manage plant modifications / projects through a change management system which includes pre and post safety audits
- Establish requirements and provide guidance in PPE management
- Ensure fire and emergency arrangements are maintained in positive order and emergency mock drills are carried out, gaps identified and corrected
- Conduct safety audits for the site
- Ensure that all employees are inducted, as per the safety procedures.
- Identify the training needs of staff as per the training matrix, and liaise with managers to nominate staff for training courses.
- Monitor staff training, and report on training targets/compliance to the plant manager, departmental heads.
- Develop a range of communication medium e.g.



health and safety display board to ensure that managers and staff are kept up to date with health and safety matters.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) :

- Safety Norms – No LTI
- Ensure 100% food safety
- To maintain a system for recording, reporting and investigating injuries, accidents and dangerous occurrences. Provide statistical summaries to the health and safety committee/ site management team and draw attention to significant trends and occurrences.
- To receive and investigate reports of accidents, dangerous occurrences and fire damage, determine their causes and make recommendations for improving recurrence prevention and controls.
- To monitor that all accidents are properly reported and investigated by Department Managers as per company protocols, and that lessons learnt are shared across the Area and with others.
- Investigate all H&S; compliance issues with line supervision and staff. Report findings and recommendations to plant manager as required. Guides / assists plant with resolution of health & safety issues
- Prepare and coordinate the external occupational health and safety audit and the audit process. Monitor that audit recommendations are being implemented within agreed timescales.

Knowledge and Technical Competencies :

- Knowledge of Technical Skills : Knowledge of Statutory Compliances
- Excellent coordination skills and multi-tasking ability
- Strong focus on delivery and results with high drive and energy levels
- Ability to cross reference and benchmark
- SAP/MS office

Education/Experience :

- B.Tech/M.Tech in Chemical/Mechanical, Diploma in Industrial Safety from recognized institute
- 15 to 20 years in FMCG.
