About the role
Happening Out is a US-facing travel and events business – group travel, individual trips, expos and sponsorships – that has grown from roughly US$1M to roughly US$2M in annual revenue. We are building the sales organisation for the next stage of that growth and are looking for a hands-on sales leader to run it.
Your employment contract, payroll and statutory benefits are issued by Linescripts Softwares Private Limited (CIN U72900PN2018PTC179440), Pune, Maharashtra. Happening Out is our sister company and the brand you will be selling for.
Please read the working hours section before applying. It is the most important term of this job.
Working hours and location
- Fully remote. Work from home anywhere in India.
- This role works US business hours: 9 hours per day including a 30-minute break, currently 5:30 PM to 2:30 AM IST, Monday to Friday.
- The shift is anchored to the US team's 8:00 AM Eastern stand-up and moves by one hour twice a year when the United States changes its clocks. We tell you in advance of each changeover.
- This is a night shift by Indian norms. Please apply only if it suits you long term.
- Open to candidates of all genders. For women employees, night-shift working is voluntary and is arranged with written consent and the safety measures required under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Rules, 2018.
- Open to candidates based in and legally authorised to work in India. This is an India-based employment contract.
What you will sell
- B2C travel – group travel packages and individual trips
- B2B travel – group, organisational and partner travel
- Events and expos – exhibitor packages and event participation
- Sponsorships and partnerships – sponsorship packages and strategic commercial partnerships
You should be confident closing a traveller, equally comfortable helping a salesperson close a traveller, developing the strategy for a major group account, and working through a five-figure USD sponsorship. This is a player-coach role, not a role for someone who manages only from behind a spreadsheet.
What you will do
- Lead and coach the team. Lead and develop a sales team of three sellers covering B2C and B2B, and grow it as the business grows. Set clear individual and team targets, run regular pipeline and performance reviews, and build a culture of accountability, urgency and genuine customer service. Coach hands-on across prospecting, discovery, follow-up, objection handling, negotiation and closing.
- Own the sales plan. Translate company revenue targets into practical goals by product, channel, salesperson and time period. Monitor performance,
adjust tactics, and help leadership decide where sales resource generates the greatest return.
- Run a disciplined pipeline. Build and maintain a clear sales process from lead generation through close. Keep opportunities, interactions, follow-ups and forecasts accurate in the CRM. Define pipeline stages, follow-up standards and reporting. Identify pipeline gaps before they become revenue problems.
- Grow B2C travel. Make sure leads get fast, professional follow-up and that the team knows each trip well enough to communicate the experience, value, itinerary, pricing and what makes it different. Improve lead conversion, repeat travel, referrals and revenue per traveller.
- Build B2B, group and partnership business. Develop opportunities with organisations, affinity groups, community partners, companies and travel partners. Pursue the larger opportunities that generate multiple travellers or recurring business. Lead the key presentations and negotiations yourself where it matters.
- Sell exhibitor packages and sponsorships. Own the commercial strategy for our events and expos. Build compelling sponsorship packages and proposals, identify prospects, and turn sponsors and exhibitors into repeat, multi-event partners.
- Carry your own pipeline. Stay embedded in strategically important deals. You should be comfortable picking up the phone, joining a call, presenting, following up, negotiating a sponsorship and closing.
How success is measured
Revenue against monthly, quarterly and annual targets; revenue by business line; pipeline value and coverage; lead-to-sale conversion; sponsorship and exhibitor revenue. Repeat and referral business, forecast accuracy and individual seller performance are reviewed monthly. Ultimately: profitable revenue growth, and a sales organisation that gets more predictable and more scalable as the company grows.
What we are looking for
- A record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets
- Experience managing and coaching salespeople
- Strong B2C and B2B selling
- Pipeline and CRM discipline
- Strong prospecting, relationship-building, negotiation and closing skills
- Ability to sell both transactional products and higher-value, relationship-driven opportunities
- Comfort in a growing entrepreneurial company where roles are broad
- Strong written and verbal English
- Uses sales data to decide without losing the human side of selling
Experience in travel, tourism, events, trade shows, sponsorships, hospitality, group sales or experiential business is an advantage, not a requirement.
You will build the sales function alongside the founders and coach the team daily. You understand that selling a US$2,000–5,000 trip to an individual traveller is different from selling a group opportunity, an exhibitor booth or a major sponsorship – and you know how to build the right approach for each.
Compensation
Fixed annual salary plus a performance-linked incentive with accelerators above target. There is no upper cap on incentive earnings under the current plan. This is a salaried role with base pay plus incentive – it is not commission-only. Incentives are earned on collected revenue and the plan is issued in writing at offer stage.
All compensation for this role is paid in Indian Rupees (INR). The USD figures in this posting refer to the US market and customer deal sizes, not to salary.
Equipment
This is a work-from-home role. You will use your own laptop and broadband connection. We do not ask candidates to pay anything to apply, interview or start. All software, CRM and calling tools are provided and paid for by the company. Minimum spec: Intel i5 / Ryzen 5 or better, 8 GB RAM, Windows 11 or macOS, and a stable broadband connection.
Travel
This role is remote and does not require international travel. Expo and event selling is done remotely by phone, email and video.
How to apply
Apply through Indeed or email [email protected] with your CV and a short note on the largest deal you have personally closed and the team you have managed.
