Job Summary The MEP Tendering & Estimation Engineer will be responsible for handling tendering and estimation activities for MEP works in commercial interior fit-out projects. The role involves reviewing tender documents and drawings, preparing quantity take-offs and cost estimates, obtaining and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotations, conducting rate analysis, and supporting the preparation of competitive and technically compliant bids. The candidate will work closely with the Tender, Design, Procurement, and Project teams to ensure accurate estimation and timely submission of tenders.
Key Responsibilities
Tendering & Bid Management
- Handle MEP tendering activities for commercial interior fit-out projects.
- Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, BOQs, and client requirements.
- Prepare detailed MEP estimates and bid summaries.
- Identify scope gaps, discrepancies, and technical requirements in tender documents.
- Prepare tender queries, assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications.
- Coordinate with Design, Procurement, Business Development, and Project teams during the tendering process.
- Ensure timely completion and submission of tender deliverables.
Estimation & Costing
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, ELV, BMS, and other MEP services.
- Carry out accurate quantity take-offs from drawings, BOQs, and specifications.
- Prepare rate analysis for MEP materials, labour, installation, and subcontracting works.
- Develop item-wise cost estimates based on project scope and specifications.
- Analyze material, labour, subcontractor, and installation costs.
- Maintain and update estimation databases, historical project rates, and cost benchmarks.
- Compare estimated costs with market rates and previous project data.
- Identify potential cost risks and opportunities for cost optimization.
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
- Obtain quotations from MEP vendors and subcontractors for tender requirements.
- Prepare techno-commercial comparison statements.
- Evaluate quotations based on price, technical compliance, scope, and commercial terms.
- Coordinate with Procurement for current market rates and material availability.
- Clarify technical and commercial queries with vendors and subcontractors.
- Assist the senior tendering team during vendor and subcontractor negotiations.
- Maintain a database of relevant MEP vendors and subcontractors.
Value Engineering
- Identify cost-saving opportunities during the tendering stage.
- Evaluate alternative materials, equipment, and installation methodologies.
- Coordinate with Design and Engineering teams for technically suitable alternatives.
- Support value engineering exercises to improve project competitiveness and profitability.
- Ensure proposed alternatives comply with project specifications and quality requirements.
Technical Review
- Review MEP drawings, specifications, BOQs, and tender documents.
- Interpret HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, ELV, and BMS drawings.
- Identify discrepancies between drawings, BOQs, and specifications.
- Raise technical queries and coordinate with consultants/design teams for clarification.
- Check scope requirements and ensure all relevant MEP items are considered in the estimate.
- Assist in preparing technical and commercial clarifications for tender submissions.
Commercial Support
- Support the Tender and Commercial teams with cost-related inputs.
- Assist in rate verification and cost comparisons.
- Provide estimation inputs for variations, additional scope, and change requests.
- Support project teams during tender-to-project handover.
- Maintain records of approved rates, historical costs, and market benchmarks.
- Monitor changes in MEP material prices, labour rates, and subcontracting costs.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare detailed estimation sheets, BOQ summaries, rate analysis, and comparison statements.
- Maintain proper records of tender documents, vendor quotations, and commercial evaluations.
- Prepare tender status updates and estimation reports.
- Ensure all estimation workings are properly documented and traceable.
- Support senior management during tender review and commercial discussions.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Additional certification in MEP, Estimation, Quantity Surveying, or related areas will be an advantage.
Experience
- 3 -7 years of relevant experience in MEP Tendering & Estimation.
- Mandatory experience in Commercial Interior Fit-Out Projects.
- Hands-on experience in MEP estimation and tender preparation.
- Strong exposure to HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, ELV, and BMS systems.
- Experience in quantity take-offs, BOQ preparation, rate analysis, and cost estimation.
- Experience in obtaining and evaluating vendor/subcontractor quotations.
- Experience handling tenders for corporate offices, commercial buildings, retail, and workplace fit-out projects will be preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of MEP quantity take-offs and estimation.
- Good understanding of HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, ELV, and BMS systems.
- Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings and specifications.
- Good knowledge of BOQ preparation and rate analysis.
- Understanding of current MEP material and labour market rates.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of MEP estimation/tendering software will be an advantage.
- Positive commercial awareness and understanding of subcontracting practices.
