Reporting To: ETP / Production In-Charge or Production Manager
1. Job Purpose
The ETP & Biofilter Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and basic maintenance of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Biofilter system. The operator shall ensure that wastewater and odour-control systems are functioning properly and that treatment activities are carried out as per company procedures, environmental requirements, and Pollution Control Board norms.
1. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor the ETP and Biofilter systems on a daily basis.
- Start, stop, and monitor pumps, blowers, aerators, agitators, dosing systems, filters, clarifiers, and other ETP equipment.
- Monitor important operating parameters such as pH, flow, temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), TDS, COD/BOD-related readings, as applicable.
- Ensure proper chemical preparation, dosing, and safe handling of treatment chemicals.
- Monitor biological treatment processes and maintain suitable operating conditions for effective treatment.
- Operate and monitor the Biofilter system to control and reduce odour generated from the production/effluent treatment areas.
- Check blower operation, air flow, spray/nozzle systems, moisture levels, media condition, and other Biofilter parameters.
- Regularly inspect tanks, pipelines, valves, pumps, blowers, filters, and other equipment for leakage, blockage, abnormal noise, or malfunction.
- Collect wastewater and treated-water samples as instructed and assist in laboratory testing.
- Maintain daily ETP and Biofilter log sheets, operating records, chemical consumption records, and maintenance records.
- Record abnormalities, breakdowns, process deviations, and corrective actions taken.
- Ensure proper handling, dewatering, storage, and disposal of sludge as per company procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping of the ETP and Biofilter areas.
- Carry out routine preventive maintenance and minor operational adjustments where authorized.
- Immediately report major equipment failures, unusual odour, leakage, overflow, abnormal discharge, or treatment problems to the concerned supervisor.
- Ensure treated effluent is maintained within applicable statutory and company requirements before discharge/reuse.
- Support Pollution Control Board inspections, environmental audits, sampling, and compliance activities.
- Assist in maintaining statutory/environmental records required for inspections and compliance.
- Follow all SOPs, safety instructions, PPE requirements, and chemical-handling procedures.
- Coordinate with the Production, Maintenance, Quality, and EHS teams whenever required.
- Perform any other ETP/environment-related duties assigned by the Production Manager or management.
1. Biofilter-Specific Responsibilities
- Monitor the Biofilter continuously during operation.
- Ensure adequate airflow through the Biofilter system.
- Monitor moisture/wetting of the Biofilter media as required.
- Check for clogging, channeling, excessive pressure drop, or deterioration of filter media.
- Ensure proper operation of associated pumps, blowers, spray systems, ducts, and valves.
- Monitor odour-control performance and immediately report abnormal odour conditions.
- Maintain records of Biofilter operation, inspection, cleaning, and maintenance.
- Assist in replacement or servicing of Biofilter media when required.
1. Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
- Wear appropriate PPE while operating the ETP and handling chemicals.
- Follow chemical storage, dilution, dosing, and emergency procedures.
- Never bypass or alter treatment systems without authorization.
- Prevent chemical spills, untreated effluent discharge, and environmental contamination.
- Keep emergency equipment and access areas clear.
- Report unsafe conditions and incidents immediately.
- Maintain good housekeeping around the ETP and Biofilter area.
1. Required Skills & Qualifications
Minimum Qualification: 10th / 12th / ITI / Diploma in a relevant technical, environmental, chemical, mechanical, or related field.
Experience:
- Freshers with relevant technical knowledge may be considered.
- Experience in ETP/STP/WTP/Biofilter operation or industrial wastewater treatment will be preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Basic knowledge of wastewater treatment processes.
- Basic knowledge of pumps, blowers, valves, aerators, filters, and dosing systems.
- Ability to take and record plant readings accurately.
- Basic understanding of pH and water-quality parameters.
- Ability to identify abnormal operating conditions.
- Basic maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
- Willingness to work in shifts, if required.
- Good discipline, housekeeping, and safety awareness.
1. Performance Expectations
The operator is expected to:
- Maintain continuous and stable ETP operation.
- Ensure proper functioning of the Biofilter and effective odour control.
- Maintain accurate daily operational records.
- Minimize equipment downtime through timely reporting and basic preventive maintenance.
- Ensure safe chemical handling and proper housekeeping.
- Support compliance with applicable environmental and Pollution Control Board requirements.
- Immediately escalate any abnormality that may affect treatment efficiency or environmental compliance.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
