Job Overview:

The Engineer II, Middleware Engineer specializing in Camunda is responsible for managing and optimizing the enterprise Business Process Management (BPM) platform. This role supports workflow automation, process orchestration, and decision management capabilities across the organization.

Responsibilities:

- Deploy and configure Camunda 8 self-managed stack on Amazon EKS using official Helm charts: Zeebe, Zeebe Gateway, Operate, Tasklist, Optimize, Identity, Web Modeler, and Connectors.
- Design multi-environment topology (Dev / Test / Staging / Prod) with appropriate sizing, replica counts, and partition strategies for the Zeebe cluster.
- Integrate Camunda components with shared Elasticsearch / OpenSearch clusters for indexing and search (Operate, Tasklist, Optimize).
- Configure Camunda Identity for SSO integration via OIDC/OAuth 2.0 (Keycloak, Okta, Azure AD).
- Manage TLS termination end-to-end: AWS ACM, ALB Ingress Controller, internal cert rotation for inter-component communication.
- Tune JVM/Zeebe broker settings:

partition count, replication factor, rocksDB compaction, exporter throughput.
- Serve as Level 2/3 on-call for Camunda platform incidents (P1/P2 SLA).
- Diagnose and resolve: Zeebe broker crashes, partition leader-election failures, process-instance backlogs, Operate/Tasklist indexing lag, Elasticsearch OOM events, and connectivity failures between components.
- Investigate slow/stuck process instances — distinguish Zeebe engine issues from process logic bugs or external service timeouts.
- Perform RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and publish post-incident reports with timeline and corrective actions.
- Own and maintain runbooks for common failure patterns: Zeebe partition rebalance, Elasticsearch red-cluster recovery, Identity token-refresh failures, full disk on broker data volumes.
- Coordinate with process developers to triage job worker failures, message correlation timeouts, and DMN evaluation errors.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for strong collaborators who deliver exceptional client experiences and thrive in quick-paced, team-oriented environments. Our ideal candidates pursue greatness, act with integrity, and are driven to help our clients succeed.

We value those who embrace creativity, continuous improvement, and contribute to a culture where we win together and create and share joy in our work.

Requirements:

- 5+ years in a platform engineering, middleware administration, or infrastructure SRE role.
- 3+ years of hands-on Camunda 8.x self-managed administration (Zeebe, Operate, Tasklist, Optimize, Identity).
- Strong Kubernetes skills — EKS or equivalent; Helm chart authoring and troubleshooting; pod scheduling, resource quotas, PVC management.
- Solid AWS experience: EKS, ALB, Route53, ACM, S3, IAM/IRSA, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, MSK.
- Experience with Terraform for AWS infrastructure provisioning.
- Proficiency with Elasticsearch / OpenSearch operations: cluster health, index management, snapshot/restore, shard tuning.
- Hands-on Prometheus + Grafana for metrics and alerting.
- Scripting proficiency: Bash and/or Python.
- Comfortable in an on-call rotation with P1/P2 SLA obligations.

Preference:

- Camunda Certified Engineer (Platform or Developer track).
- Experience with Camunda 7 → 8 migration (migration tooling, process redesign for Zeebe compatibility).
- Familiarity with Keycloak administration (realm config, identity providers, client scopes) as Camunda Identity's backing IdP.
- Exposure to Camunda Optimize configuration and report authoring for process performance analytics.
- AWS certifications: Solutions Architect Associate/Professional or DevOps Engineer Professional.
