We're Hiring: Embedded System Engineer
Full time | Core team
LAT Aerospace | Cross Program
LAT Aerospace is developing next-generation aerospace systems from first principles. This includes a hybrid electric aircraft that takes off and lands within a space of a parking lot, Defence systems built from ground up and scalable Gas Turbine Engines.
The Embedded Systems Engineer is a cross-program role spanning drivers, hardware interfaces, real-time systems, control logic, communications, and application-level firmware. You will work closely with PCB, electrical, and controls engineers to take embedded systems from first prototype through testing and deployment.
What you’ll do
- Develop firmware across multiple layers, from low-level drivers and hardware abstraction to application and control logic.
- Develop real-time embedded software for microcontrollers and embedded processors.
- Build drivers and interfaces for sensors, actuators, ADCs, DACs, timers, communication peripherals, and other hardware.
- Implement communication protocols including CAN/CAN-FD, SPI, I²C, UART, RS-485, Ethernet, and other interfaces.
- Develop embedded control, monitoring, data logging, diagnostics, and fault-handling systems.
- Work closely with PCB engineers to define hardware–firmware interfaces and debug board-level issues.
- Bring up new hardware, debug firmware, and validate complete embedded systems on the bench and in integrated test environments.
- Develop automated test and hardware-in-the-loop environments where required.
- Build robust software architectures with appropriate fault handling, watchdogs, diagnostics, and recovery mechanisms.
- Maintain firmware architecture, documentation, version control, test procedures, and release processes.
What we’re looking for
- 3+ years of professional experience developing firmware for aerospace, automotive, robotics, industrial, or other high-reliability systems is preferred.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ and embedded software development.
- Experience with ARM-based microcontrollers such as STM32, TI, NXP, Microchip, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience debugging embedded systems using JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, and other tools.
- Robust understanding of firmware–hardware interaction and ability to debug issues across both layers.
- Experience with embedded communication protocols such as CAN/CAN-FD, SPI, I²C, UART, Ethernet, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, ARP4754A, and ARP4761 or equivalent safety-critical development and verification practices.
- Experience with requirements-driven development, traceability, configuration management, verification, and software/hardware validation is highly preferred.
- Strong software engineering practices including code reviews, automated testing, and version control.
Why join LAT?
- No hierarchy beyond strength of ideas.
- Rapid hardware iteration culture.
- Build systems that have to work reliably in the real world.
