The Echo Technician is responsible for performing echocardiographic examinations to obtain high-quality images and measurements of the heart. The technician prepares patients, operates echocardiography equipment, maintains accurate records, and assists the cardiologist in diagnostic procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform 2D Echo, M-Mode, Color Doppler, and Spectral Doppler examinations.
- Prepare patients and explain the procedure clearly before the examination.
- Obtain appropriate cardiac views and accurate measurements according to departmental protocols.
- Operate and maintain echocardiography equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist cardiologists during TTE, TEE, stress echocardiography, and other cardiac procedures as required.
- Ensure correct patient identification and maintain complete examination records.
- Document technical findings and measurements accurately for review by the cardiologist.
- Recognize technically inadequate images and repeat views when necessary.
- Immediately inform the cardiologist of significant or urgent observations according to hospital protocol.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and hospital policies.
- Clean and disinfect equipment and examination areas after procedures.
- Maintain proper storage and management of patient reports and images.
- Participate in quality-control activities and departmental training.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Cardiac Care Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, Echocardiography, or a related field.
- Relevant clinical training in echocardiography.
- Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and basic echocardiographic principles.
- Experience with echocardiography equipment is preferred.
