POSITION SUMMARY

- The Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive management of patients with musculoskeletal disorders, trauma injuries, fractures, degenerative joint conditions, sports injuries, and related orthopaedic conditions.
- The consultant shall provide outpatient, inpatient, emergency, surgical, and rehabilitative care to the highest standards of clinical excellence, patient safety, and ethical practice.
- The role requires active participation in hospital growth initiatives, quality improvement programmes, multidisciplinary care pathways, departmental development, and community outreach activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Clinical Responsibilities OPD &

• Inpatient Care: Conduct comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of orthopaedic conditions.

- Manage OPD consultations and inpatient admissions efficiently.
- Evaluate and manage emergency trauma and fracture cases.
- Develop individualised treatment and rehabilitation plans for each patient.
- Interpret X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, and other diagnostic investigations.
- Monitor post-operative recovery, wound care, and complication management.
- Coordinate care with physiotherapists, pain specialists, intensivists, neurologists, and other relevant specialists.

Surgical Responsibilities:

- Trauma &

• Fracture Surgery: closed/open fracture reduction, intramedullary nailing, plate fixation, external fixation, and polytrauma management.

- Joint Replacement Surgery: Total Knee Replacement (TKR), Total Hip Replacement (THR), and revision arthroplasty.
- Arthroscopy &

• Sports Medicine: knee and shoulder arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, and meniscal repairs.

- Spine Surgery (if credentialed): minimally invasive procedures, spinal decompression, and fixation.
- Paediatric Orthopaedics: congenital deformity correction and paediatric trauma management.
- Emergency Responsibilities: Manage acute trauma, fractures, dislocations, and polytrauma cases.




- Participate in emergency on-call and mass casualty response as required.
- Ensure stabilisation and appropriate surgical intervention within clinically indicated timelines.
- Quality &

• Compliance Adhere to NABH, NMC, and hospital clinical protocols at all times.

- Participate in clinical audits, mortality and morbidity reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure strict compliance with infection prevention and control policies.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation as per medico-legal requirements.
- Report adverse events, near misses, and sentinel events as per hospital policy.
- Obtain valid informed consent for all procedures and clearly communicate risks, benefits, and alternatives to patients and families.
- Academic &

• Professional Development Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CMEs), conferences, and professional forums.

- Provide mentorship and clinical supervision to junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff.
- Develop and update departmental clinical protocols and surgical checklists.
- Stay current with advances in orthopaedic surgery, implant technology, and minimally invasive techniques.
- Participate in clinical research and academic publications where applicable.
- Business Development &

• Hospital Growth Support the development of an Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence at BMSH.

- Participate in health camps, community awareness programmes, and outreach activities.
- Build and strengthen referral relationships with general practitioners, physicians, and healthcare providers.
- Contribute to service-line growth, patient retention, and brand reputation of the department.
- Assist in developing and expanding specialty clinics:



Joint Replacement Clinic, Sports Injury Clinic, Trauma Clinic, Osteoporosis Clinic, and Spine Clinic.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Essential MBBS MS / DNB Orthopaedics Valid State Medical Council Registration Preferred Fellowship in Joint Replacement, Arthroscopy &

• Sports Medicine, Trauma Surgery, Spine Surgery, or Paediatric Orthopaedics Training in minimally invasive orthopaedic techniques EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Consultant: Minimum 5 years post-MS/DNB experience in a recognised hospital or orthopaedic centre.

- Senior Consultant: Minimum 810 years post-MS/DNB experience with demonstrated surgical proficiency.

- WORKING PATTERN Full time consultant engagement.
- OPD, IPD, Operation Theatre (OT), and Emergency coverage.
- Participation in on-call and trauma on-call roster.
- Availability during medical emergencies and mass casualty incidents.
- Attendance at departmental meetings, quality reviews, and hospital governance activities.
