Environmental Resources Management (ERM)

Bengaluru

ERM is the world s largest specialist sustainability consultancy, with over 50 years of experience helping organizations navigate complex environmental, social, and governance challenges. We bring together a global community of experts to deliver meaningful impact for our clients and the planet.

Our Consulting Delivery Hub (CDH) in India is a critical part of ERM s global consulting model enabling scalable, high-quality delivery across regions and service lines. CDH teams work in close partnership with regional consultants to support global client projects, providing specialist expertise, driving consistency, and enhancing delivery efficiency across our most important programmes.

As part of the Consulting Delivery Hub, you will collaborate with colleagues worldwide, contribute to complex sustainability projects, and play a key role in shaping the future of global consulting delivery.

Why this role matters

As a Construction Health Safety Specialist, you will support ERM s global consulting delivery by providing construction-focused HS expertise that helps clients and project teams manage higher-risk works safely and in compliance with legislation and standards. Working within the Safety Sustainable Operations (SSO) service line of the Consulting Delivery Hub - and partnering with regional consultants, designers, contractors and client HS representatives across EMEA, SEBU and North America - you will, as a developing specialist working with minimal supervision, independently deliver and review the construction-safety documentation and analysis that underpins safe execution on site. This role is critical to preventing incidents on dynamic construction projects, strengthening contractor performance, and enabling ERM to scale trusted, high-quality construction HS delivery from the hub.

What your impact is

- Construction HS deliverables - RAMS, method statements, JSAs, hazard registers, safety plans and CDM / pre-construction information - are produced and reviewed independently to a standard regional teams can rely on with minimal rework.
- Higher-risk construction activities (work at height, lifting, excavation, confined space, hot work) are competently risk-assessed and controls are verified against design, method and legislation.
- Contractor HS plans, method statements and corrective-action evidence are reviewed rigorously, driving measurable improvement in contractor compliance.

- Incident and near-miss investigations are well supported through sound root-cause analysis, with preventive actions that reduce recurrence across projects.
- Regional project teams gain reliable, judgement-based construction HS capacity from the hub, improving delivery quality, consistency and speed.
- As a developing specialist, you will mentor junior colleagues and raise the technical bar of the wider HSE delivery team.

What will you bring

- A bachelor s or master s degree in Occupational Health Safety, Environmental/Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically, 3-5 years of HS experience, including meaningful exposure to construction or infrastructure projects (a relevant masters may offset some experience).
- Sound working knowledge of construction HS - CDM 2015 (or equivalent), protected systems of work, permit-to-work, and control of high-risk activities (work at height, lifting, excavation, confined space, hot work).
- Practical experience preparing and reviewing RAMS, method statements, JSAs, hazard registers and safety documentation.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 management systems and applicable construction HS legislation/standards across international jurisdictions (EMEA/UK, US/OSHA and others).
- Experience supporting incident investigation and root-cause analysis and reviewing contractor HS performance.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exercise technical judgement and manage priorities across multiple projects and time zones.
- Confident written and verbal English communication and stakeholder engagement with contractors, engineers and client HS contacts.
- A recognized construction-safety qualification - NEBOSH Certificate in Construction Health Safety (Health Safety Management for Construction) or equivalent - held or in progress.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent - held.

Preferred qualifications, skills competencies

- NEBOSH International Diploma (held or working toward).
- ISO 45001:2018 Lead Auditor.

- CertIOSH / CMIOSH (or actively progressing); BCSP ASP/CSP.
- CDM / Safety-in-Design training; IEMA membership; ISO 14001 Lead Auditor.
- Experience with CDM / Safety-in-Design (SiD) advisory and design-stage risk management using the hierarchy of controls.
- Exposure to occupational-health risk (noise, dust, hazardous substances, asbestos) and/or ESG / sustainability integration.
- Experience in a global delivery or consulting environment supporting multi-region project portfolios.
- Use of automation or AI-enabled tools to improve HSE analysis, review and reporting.

Key responsibilities

- Independently prepare and review construction HS deliverables - RAMS, method statements, JSAs, hazard registers, construction-phase plans, CDM / pre-construction information and safety files - to ERM and client standards.
- Assess higher-risk construction activities (work at height, lifting, excavation, confined space, hot work) and verify that controls align with the hierarchy of controls, design intent, method statements and legislation.
- Review contractor HS plans, method statements and corrective-action evidence, monitor contractor compliance, and escalate gaps with practical recommendations.
- Support and document incident and near-miss investigations using root-cause analysis, and track preventive/corrective actions to closure across projects.
- Provide technical HS advice to regional consultants, designers, contractors and client representatives on compliance obligations, risk-control strategies and safe systems of work.
- Develop and review construction-safety documentation, inductions, toolbox talks and site-specific briefings that regional teams deliver on site.
- Support desktop verification of site findings, safety walk-through outcomes and inspection close-outs reported by regional/site teams.
- Contribute to HSE management-system implementation and audit-readiness (ISO 45001) and apply ERM methodologies, tools and safety standards published on Minerva.
- Act as a buddy / mentor to junior HSE Specialists, supporting their technical development and reviewing their outputs.
