? Role Overview
As an OpenShift Engineer, you will take second-line ownership of a production Red Hat OpenShift/Kubernetes platform, handling complex escalations, cluster administration, upgrades, networking, storage, security, monitoring, and platform automation.
? Key Responsibilities
- Own L1 escalations and perform RCA across control plane, nodes, networking, and storage.
- Manage OpenShift cluster configuration, node lifecycle, scheduling, taints/tolerations, and resources.
- Plan and execute cluster upgrades and Operator Lifecycle Management (OLM) with rollback procedures.
- Troubleshoot OVN-Kubernetes/OpenShift SDN, ingress, routes, services, DNS, and network policies.
- Manage Storage Classes, CSI, PV/PVC, and OpenShift Data Foundation/Ceph.
- Administer Prometheus, Alertmanager, Grafana, and cluster logging using EFK/Loki.
- Manage RBAC, SCCs, service accounts, certificates, registry and image policies.
- Monitor etcd, control-plane health, and backup/restore procedures.
- Automate operations using Ansible, Helm, Bash/Python, and GitOps tools such as ArgoCD.
- Maintain runbooks/SOPs and mentor L1 engineers.
- Participate in change management, problem management, and post-incident reviews.
?️ Must-Have Skills
- 4+ years of hands-on OpenShift/Kubernetes production administration.
- Strong understanding of OpenShift architecture, etcd, scheduler, controllers, and control plane.
- Expertise in OpenShift networking — OVN-Kubernetes/OpenShift SDN, routes, ingress, DNS, and network policies.
- Robust knowledge of Kubernetes storage, CSI, dynamic provisioning, PV/PVC.
- Production experience with OpenShift upgrades and Operator updates.
- Monitoring & observability: Prometheus, Alertmanager, Grafana, EFK/Loki.
- Platform security: RBAC, SCC, certificates, registry and image policies.
- Ansible, Helm, Bash/Python, and GitOps/ArgoCD.
- Strong RHEL/RHEL CoreOS Linux administration.
- Excellent troubleshooting, RCA, and technical documentation skills.
⭐ Good to Have
- Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration / RHCA.
- OpenShift Virtualization or KubeVirt experience.
- OpenStack exposure.
- Experience in telecom, BFSI, or regulated data-center environments.
- Experience mentoring or leading shift-based support teams.
