Purpose:
To ensure that all civil construction activities are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, quality standards, applicable codes, and project requirements.
The Civil
Engineer QA/QC will be responsible for implementing quality assurance and quality control procedures at site, conducting inspections and tests, maintaining quality documentation, and coordinating with project, design, consultant, and subcontractor teams to achieve the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality Control & Site Inspection
- Monitor and inspect civil construction activities including:
- Earthwork and excavation
- PCC and RCC works
- Foundations, pile foundations and pile caps
- Columns, beams and slabs
- Masonry and blockwork
- Plastering and rendering
- Waterproofing
- Flooring and tiling
- External development works
- Structural and architectural finishing works
- Ensure construction is carried out as per approved drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs and applicable standards.
- Conduct inspections at various stages of construction and ensure proper hold/witness points are followed.
- Verify reinforcement, formwork, embedments, sleeves, levels, dimensions, line and alignment before concreting.
- Monitor concrete production, placement, vibration, curing and finishing.
- Inspect incoming construction materials and verify compliance with approved material specifications.
2. QA/QC Documentation
- Prepare and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), checklists, inspection requests and quality records.
- Review and implement approved Method Statements and Quality Control Procedures.
- Maintain records of:
- Material inspection reports
- Concrete pour cards
- Cube test reports
- Soil test reports
- Reinforcement and steel test certificates
- Waterproofing test reports
- Inspection requests
- NCRs and corrective action reports
- Calibration certificates
- Quality audit reports
- Prepare and maintain project quality dossiers and handover documentation.
3. Testing & Material Quality
- Coordinate with laboratories for concrete, soil, aggregates, cement, steel and other construction material testing.
- Monitor concrete cube sampling, testing and result analysis.
- Ensure required field and laboratory tests are conducted as per project specifications and applicable standards.
- Verify test certificates and material approvals before use at site.
- Ensure measuring and testing equipment is properly calibrated and calibration records are maintained.
4. Non-Conformance & Corrective Actions
- Identify quality deviations and initiate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where required.
- Coordinate with construction teams to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Follow up on closure of NCRs and observations within the stipulated timeframe.
- Monitor recurring quality issues and recommend preventive measures.
5. Coordination
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Site Engineers, Planning Engineers, MEP teams, subcontractors, consultants and client representatives.
- Attend quality-related meetings and inspections with consultants/client representatives.
- Coordinate inspection schedules and ensure timely approvals.
- Review drawings and specifications and highlight discrepancies or constructability issues affecting quality.
6. Quality Assurance
- Assist in implementing the project's Quality Management System.
- Ensure compliance with approved Quality Plans, ITPs, Method Statements and inspection procedures.
- Participate in internal and external quality audits.
- Promote quality awareness among, supervisors, subcontractors and workmen.
- Conduct toolbox talks and quality awareness sessions related to workmanship and construction practices.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and reduction of rework.
7. Finishing & Handover Quality
- Inspect architectural finishing works for workmanship, alignment, levels, dimensions and surface quality.
- Monitor waterproofing tests, pond tests and other required performance tests.
- Prepare snag/punch lists and coordinate with construction teams for closure.
- Assist in final inspections,
testing and commissioning-related civil activities.
- Ensure all quality documentation is completed for project handover.
Technical Responsibilities The candidate should have working knowledge of:
- RCC and structural concrete construction
- Reinforcement and formwork inspection
- Masonry and plastering works
- Waterproofing systems
- Finishing works
- Earthwork and foundations
- Concrete technology and testing
- Construction materials and their testing requirements
- Quality control procedures and inspection techniques
- Method Statements and ITPs
- NCR, corrective and preventive action procedures
- Shop drawings and construction drawings
- Applicable Indian Standards (IS Codes), project specifications and relevant international standards
- QA/QC documentation and quality management systems

Preferred candidate profile
Qualification & Experience
Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution with 3-7 years of relevant experience in QA/QC for building construction projects.
Experience in two or more of the following is preferred:
- Residential apartments
- Multi-storey buildings / MSBs
- Institutional buildings
- Commercial complexes
- Industrial buildings
- Large-scale infrastructure/building projects
Preferred Skills
- Strong knowledge of civil construction practices and quality standards
- Good understanding of drawings and specifications
- Ability to identify construction defects and quality risks
- Valuable documentation and reporting skills
- Strong inspection and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to coordinate effectively with consultants, clients, subcontractors and site teams
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and construction/QA-QC documentation systems
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a project team
