Role & Responsibilities

- Lead end-to-end steel operations spanning billets, TMT rolling, and wire rod production across multiple plants

- Oversee 5+ steel plants daily, enforcing rolling mill uptime through shift-wise melt shop coordination

- Optimize supply chain from captive mines to dealer networks across multiple states

- Craft a 3-year ops roadmap to stabilize steel output, prioritizing furnace relining and rolling mill debottlenecking

- Streamline mine-to-melt logistics, reducing billet transit times through dedicated rail sidings

- Direct 2000+ steel workforce shifts, targeting high labor productivity through skill mapping and overtime management

- Implement SPC protocols for TMT bar diameters, ensuring conformance to BIS 1786 standards

- Drive product mix optimization, elevating high-margin TMT grades while phasing out low-yield wire rods

- Command steel P&L; exceeding 2500 Crore, delivering strong EBITDA margins through conversion cost compression

- Enforce quality gates at finishing lines and champion ISO 9001 recertification with zero major non-conformities

- Negotiate power PPA renewals and forge supplier alliances for scrap and sponge iron to hedge import risks

- Report monthly steel KPIs to leadership, flagging margin erosion risks with mitigation plans

- Embed ESG metrics in operations, including water use reduction through recycle loops

Preferred Candidate Profile

- B.Tech/B.E.



in Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering from IIT/NIT or equivalent; Postgraduate diploma in Steel Technology or MBA (Operations) preferred

- 1520 years in steel manufacturing, including 10+ years in CXO/VP roles at integrated steel players with P&L; exceeding 1500 Crore

- Hands-on Central India exposure, ideally managing TMT/billet plants in mineral-rich regulatory-intensive belts

- Track record in backward-integrated operations, from melt shop to market, amid volatile scrap cycles

- Mastery of steel processes: EAF/LF/VD, continuous casting, hot rolling for TMT/wire rods

- Proven ops leadership in unionized, multi-shift steel environments with 1000+ headcount

- Expertise in cost accounting for metals — yield tracking, melting losses, conversion metrics

- Solid supply chain acumen for bulk logistics in landlocked regions

- Data fluency in MES/ERP systems for real-time production dashboards

- Negotiation prowess with suppliers, unions, and state regulators

- Crisis management for breakdowns, monsoons, or raw material shortages

- Knowledge of BIS standards, green steel norms, and Industry 4.0 basics for steel
