Associate Managing Editor
Job Summary
We are looking for a highly organized and responsible Associate Managing Editor to support the management and day-to-day operations of academic journals. The role involves coordinating editorial activities, managing manuscripts through the publication workflow, communicating with authors, reviewers, and editors, and ensuring timely and high-quality journal operations.
The ideal candidate should have strong communication, team coordination, organizational, and editorial management skills, with an interest in academic publishing and research.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day editorial operations of assigned academic journals.
- Coordinate the complete manuscript workflow, from submission and initial screening through peer review, revision, acceptance, and publication.
- Communicate professionally with authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial board members.
- Coordinate peer-review assignments and follow up with reviewers to ensure timely responses.
- Monitor manuscript status and ensure publications are completed within established timelines.
- Conduct initial checks for manuscript completeness, formatting, plagiarism, and basic editorial requirements.
- Coordinate with editors and internal teams regarding manuscript decisions, revisions, and publication requirements.
- Follow up with authors regarding revisions, missing documents, publication formalities, and other editorial requirements.
- Maintain accurate manuscript records, editorial databases, and journal-related documentation.
- Support the Managing Editor in improving journal workflows, publication quality, and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate with the editorial and production teams for final publication and online release.
- Monitor journal performance, submission activity, publication schedules,
and other operational metrics.
- Assist in developing strategies to increase manuscript submissions, editorial board participation, and journal visibility.
- Help train and guide editorial team members on journal processes and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure that journal activities follow established editorial policies, ethical standards, and publishing procedures.
- Prepare regular reports and updates for management regarding journal activities and performance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, Journalism, Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Management, or a related field.
- Experience in academic publishing, journal management, editorial operations, or scholarly communication is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple journals, manuscripts, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong follow-up, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Good knowledge of MS Office/Google Workspace and basic documentation tools.
- Ability to work independently as well as coordinate effectively with a team.
- Solid attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience as an Editorial Assistant, Journal Coordinator, Managing Editor, Associate Editor, or similar position.
- Familiarity with peer-review systems, manuscript submission platforms, plagiarism-checking tools, and academic publishing workflows.
- Experience handling authors, reviewers, and editorial board members.
- Team-handling or journal portfolio management experience will be an advantage.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹22,000.00 per month
