The Global Supply Organization is a multi-continental Function that comprises of the entire Value Chain from product conceptualization to delivery to the commercial front. Within the Global Supply Organization are included; Research & Development, Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain Management and Logistics.
Position: Assistant Manager – Engineering & Maintenance
Department : Engineering & Maintenance
Reporting To: Senior Manager – Engineering & Maintenance
Location: Jejuri, Pune with frequent travel to Nigeria as required
Job Purpose To support plant engineering, maintenance, utilities, and infrastructure activities across manufacturing operations, ensuring equipment reliability, uninterrupted utility availability, GMP compliance, timely maintenance, and effective execution of engineering projects. The role will also provide engineering support to the Nigeria operations through periodic visits and coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Maintenance & Engineering
- Support day-to-day engineering and maintenance activities to ensure uninterrupted production operations.
- Execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance programs to improve equipment uptime and reliability.
- Monitor maintenance activities and ensure timely resolution of equipment breakdowns.
- Support installation, commissioning, qualification, and modification of equipment and engineering systems.
- Identify opportunities for equipment improvement, reliability enhancement, and cost reduction.
Utilities Management
- Monitor availability and performance of critical utilities including electricity, water, steam, HVAC, compressed air, and other plant utilities.
- Ensure preventive maintenance and timely troubleshooting of utility systems.
- Monitor utility consumption and support energy conservation and cost optimization initiatives.
- Ensure utility systems remain compliant with GMP and safety requirements.
GMP & Compliance
- Ensure engineering and maintenance activities comply with GMP, SOPs, EHS requirements, and statutory regulations.
- Support preparation and review of SOPs, qualification protocols, maintenance records, and engineering documentation.
- Support internal, corporate, customer, and regulatory audits and ensure timely closure of engineering-related observations and CAPAs.
- Maintain engineering systems and records in an audit-ready condition.
CAPEX & Projects
- Support planning and execution of engineering CAPEX projects within approved timelines and budgets.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for equipment installation, commissioning, and qualification.
- Support preparation of technical specifications, quotations, comparative statements, and project documentation.
- Monitor project progress and highlight delays, risks, and cost implications to management.
Nigeria Operations Support
- Travel to Nigeria periodically to provide engineering and maintenance support to the plant.
- Assess equipment, utility, and infrastructure requirements at the Nigeria facility and coordinate corrective actions.
- Support preventive maintenance planning, breakdown resolution, utility optimization, and engineering projects at the Nigeria site.
- Coordinate with local engineering teams, vendors, contractors, Production, QA, and other stakeholders.
- Support GMP, audit, qualification, and regulatory requirements related to engineering and utilities in Nigeria.
- Prepare visit reports,
identify improvement opportunities, and track closure of agreed action items.
SAP, Spare Parts & Vendor Management
- Raise and monitor engineering-related PRs, POs, GRNs, Service Entry Sheets, and other SAP transactions.
- Monitor critical spare parts and maintain optimum inventory levels.
- Coordinate with engineering vendors, contractors, and service providers.
- Support evaluation of vendor performance, AMC renewals, and service contracts.
Team & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, QA, QC, Warehouse, Procurement, Finance, EHS, and HR for engineering requirements.
- Guide technicians and engineering team members in maintenance activities and secure working practices.
- Support technical training and competency development of engineering personnel.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures during maintenance and project activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering – Mandatory.
- Master's Degree / MBA will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 10 years of experience in Engineering & Maintenance, preferably in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Experience in GMP-regulated manufacturing environments is preferred.
- Exposure to plant utilities, preventive maintenance, CAPEX projects, equipment qualification, and statutory compliance.
- International exposure or experience supporting African operations will be an advantage.
- Willingness and ability to travel to Nigeria frequently as per business requirements.
