Data Engineering Associate Director
Position Overview
Evernorth, a leading health services organization, seeks highly qualified data engineers and developers to join our Data and Analytics team. In this position, you will collaborate closely with your development team on projects aligned with Evernorth’s strategic objectives and work alongside subject matter experts to accurately interpret business logic for engineering purposes. As a software engineer, you will contribute to the design and implementation of unified architectural strategies, enabling advanced reporting and analytical capabilities across the enterprise.

The Senior Manager oversees a blended team of analysts and technical practitioners responsible for building trusted, scalable data assets that power Data warehouses, analytics, and process modernization. This role designs the roadmap, guides architectural direction, ensures quality and governance,
and partners with technology teams to transition designs into robust, enterprise-grade production pipelines.
Primary responsibilities include engineering scalable cloud-based solutions utilizing AWS Services, Databricks, Teradata Vantage, and CI/CD frameworks to optimize data workflows and minimize manual intervention.
Responsibilities
- Deliver functionality with accountability and technical excellence.
- Demonstrate hands-on experience with AWS services.
- Design and implement solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and standards.
- Leverage DevOps tools (e.g., Github, Jenkins, Terraform, Liquibase) to streamline deployment and operational processes.
- Automate data workflows, validation, and monitoring to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Conduct peer code reviews, manage merge requests, and oversee production releases.
- Apply Agile principles in design, development, and delivery.
- Collaborate effectively in a high-performing team environment.
- Demonstrate ownership, innovation, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Collaborate with other scrum teams on design, testing, and related engineering activities.
- Define data needs and support the creation of test data for unit, system, and integration testing.
- Manage and provide day-to-day leadership for a small team of talented engineers, guiding technical decisions, coaching team members, and ensuring high quality deliveryand adherence to coding standards.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Working knowledge of the following: Python, Databricks, SQL, Unix
- Should have extensive hands-on experience in AWS services such as Lambda, Step Functions, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, SNS, SQS, S3, VPC, EC2, RDS, and IAM.
- Experience working with SPARK and real time analytic frameworks.
- Documented experience in a business intelligence or analytic development role on a variety of large-scale projects.
- Working experience relevant to standard SDLC (build, test, deploy) and building web service (HTTP API/RPC).
- Ability to rapidly prototype and storyboard/wireframe development as part of application design.
- Write referenceable and modular code.
- Willingness to continuously learn and share learnings with others.
- Ability to communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions clearly and effectively to teams and clients.
- Define, document, and complete system requirement specifications, including functional and non‑functional requirements.
- Support business requirement definition, including helping the Product Owner write user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience managing and guiding a small team of talented engineers.
Required Experience & Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline with 15 to 20 years of experience in application program development, or the equivalent in education and work experience.
Desired Experience:
- AWS certification preferred
