Role Overview
Mecwin is looking for an Application Engineer with strong technical knowledge of electric motors. The candidate will act as the technical bridge between customers and Mecwin’s Sales, Business Development, Design, NPD, Manufacturing, Quality and Testing teams.
The Application Engineer will support the complete process—from understanding the customer’s application and preparing the technical solution to motor development, validation, customer approval and production handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand customer applications, operating conditions and technical requirements.
- Convert customer requirements into clear motor specifications and engineering inputs.
- Support the Sales and Business Development teams during customer enquiries, technical discussions and proposal preparation.
- Participate in motor selection, sizing, feasibility assessment and application engineering.
- Coordinate with the Design and NPD teams for customised motor design and development.
- Review parameters such as power, torque, speed, duty cycle, efficiency, thermal limits, voltage, current, IP protection, insulation class and environmental conditions.
- Support RFQ evaluation, technical feasibility studies, BOM preparation, costing and project timeline estimation.
- Prepare technical proposals, datasheets, product specifications, drawings, test plans, compliance documents and technical presentations.
- Possess strong knowledge in at least one of the following motor technologies:
- AC Induction Motors (ACIM)
- BLDC Motors
- PMDC Motors
- PMSM Motors
- Axial Flux Motors
- Understand the complete motor manufacturing process, including winding, stator and rotor manufacturing, insulation, magnet assembly, machining, balancing, motor assembly and final testing.
- Participate in prototype development, testing, validation and performance improvement.
- Analyse test results and coordinate corrective actions for technical or performance deviations.
- Support root-cause analysis and resolution of motor failures, field issues and customer complaints.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchase and Supplier Development teams to ensure product manufacturability and quality.
- Support product industrialisation and smooth transfer from prototype to series production.
- Understand relevant certification and compliance requirements, including BIS, IS, IEC, UL, CE and ATEX.
- Handle customer technical visits, design reviews, factory visits, audits and pre-dispatch inspections at Mecwin.
- Travel to customer locations and manufacturing plants to study applications and understand installation conditions.
- Support the business team throughout the customer journey—from enquiry and development to testing, approval and production.
- Maintain technical records, revision controls, meeting minutes, action trackers and project documentation.
- Ensure timely communication and coordination between the customer and internal teams.
- Provide post-development technical support during product trials, installation and initial field performance.
Required Technical Skills
- Sound understanding of electric motor design, development and application engineering.
- Knowledge of electromagnetic, mechanical and thermal aspects of motors.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and customer technical documents.
- Knowledge of motor performance testing, validation methods and test equipment.
- Understanding of motor control systems, drives and controllers will be an advantage.
- Familiarity with CAD, motor-design or engineering-analysis software will be preferred.
- Knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, DVP&R;, APQP and PPAP will be an added advantage.
- Understanding of quality systems and structured problem-solving methods such as 8D and root-cause analysis is desirable.
