About Samurai Labs

Samurai Labs Technologies LLP is a product studio and technology partner, registered in India and founded in April 2025. We design and engineer AI software for the people we work with, then build and run our own products on the same craft — so the bar we hold client work to is the bar we live with every day.

We build and operate SellEzzy, EzzyBooks, EzzyService, and PingPilot. All of it is live and in market.

The studio was started on one frustration: most software is sold well and built poorly. We exist to do the opposite, and to prove it by running our own products in the open rather than in a portfolio.

Design and engineering sit in one team. Most first versions ship in six to eight weeks.

Your Mission

We are hiring a designer who treats design as a way of thinking about problems — not a stage that happens once the requirements are written.

You will design across two kinds of work. Client products where you sit close to a founder or a business owner and turn a vague ask into something buildable. And our own products —

SellEzzy, EzzyBooks, EzzyService, PingPilot — where you own the interface, live with the consequences, and fix what doesn't work. We are also hiring for a specific thing: a designer who already works in AI, not one who is “exploring” it.

That means AI is part of how you get from a blank file to a shipped screen every day —

generating and pressure-testing variations, writing and refining interface copy, building working prototypes without waiting on an engineer, synthesising research, and producing assets. We are an AI product studio. A designer here who works at pre-AI speed is a bottleneck for the whole team.

There is no handoff here and no ticket queue. You will be in the room when we decide what to build, and your work will be in production within weeks. When the first version ships in six weeks, design is not the stage that slows it down; it is what makes the six weeks possible.

Our users are distributors, small business owners, field technicians, and shop staff. Many are on an entry-level Android phone with patchy connectivity, using the app between jobs. If the design isn't obvious, it fails. That constraint is the interesting part of this role.

What You'll Do

Understand the Problem

Sit with a founder, a client stakeholder, or our own product lead and reframe an idea into something concrete and designable.

Map the existing flow before you redesign it — know what breaks and why before you open

Figma.

Watch real users. Join client calls, sit with a distributor or a technician, and bring back a design decision rather than a slide.

Ask what happens on the edges: empty states, failures, poor connectivity, partial data, the user who did it wrong.Design and Build Own products and modules end to end — problem framing, user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, prototypes, and handoff.

Design across surfaces: responsive web dashboards, SaaS platforms, and native Android,

respecting the conventions of each rather than flattening both into one.

Build and maintain design systems — components, variants, tokens, states,

and documentation the team actually uses. Systems, not one-off screens.

Prototype fast to test an idea before it becomes expensive. A rough clickable flow beats a polished static screen.

Handle the unglamorous surfaces properly: tables, filters, bulk actions, forms, permissions,

catalogs, invoices. This is most of the product.

Design AI-assisted features where they remove real work — and know when a simpler build wins.

Work in AI, Daily

- Use AI as a working medium, not an experiment — Claude and Claude Code, Figma Make, Cursor, v0, Lovable, and whatever replaces them in six months.
- Go from concept to a clickable, real-data prototype yourself, without waiting for engineering time.
- Write good prompts and give good context. Getting a usable result out of a model is a craft skill, and it is one we will assess.
- Generate and evaluate variations quickly, then apply judgement about which one is actually right. The model widens the option set; you still make the call.
- Draft and refine interface copy, empty states, error messages, and onboarding text with AI as a first-draft partner.
- Design AI-native interfaces properly: chat and agent surfaces, streaming and loading states, confidence and uncertainty, review-and-approve steps, and what the user sees when the model is wrong.
- Bring new tools and workflows to the team. We expect you to be ahead of us on this, not behind.

Ship and Follow Through

- Work alongside engineers through implementation. Review builds, catch drift, and care how
- it actually shipped.
- Know roughly what is cheap and what is expensive to build, and design accordingly.
- Write clearly — specs, annotations, and interface copy. Bad microcopy undoes good design.
- Check what happened after release and iterate on the parts that didn't land.

What You Bring

- 2–5 years designing digital products, with at least one shipped product you can walk us through in depth.
- A portfolio that shows thinking, not just screens. We want the messy middle: what the problem was, what you tried, what you cut, and what you'd do differently now.
- Active, demonstrable AI skills. Not curiosity — current practice. You use Claude or an equivalent model daily, you have real workflows with AI design and prototyping tools, and you can show us what you have built with them. This is a requirement, not a bonus.
- Strong Figma — components, variants, auto-layout, prototyping, and structured files someone else can pick up.
- Real command of the fundamentals — interaction patterns, information hierarchy, typography, spacing, colour, and accessibility basics.
- Web and mobile experience, with a working understanding of Material Design and platform conventions.

- The ability to explain a design decision to a non-designer and defend it without getting defensive about it.
- Judgement about where AI helps and where it doesn't. You know what a model is good at, where it produces confident nonsense, and when the slower manual path is the right one.
- Comfort with ambiguity and speed. You'd rather be handed a problem than a wireframe to prettify, and you can make a call without a month of research.

Bonus

- B2B, SaaS, or operations-heavy products where the user has no choice but to use your interface all day.
- Design system ownership from scratch.
- Basic HTML/CSS, or familiarity with component frameworks and design tokens in code.
- Motion and micro-interaction work.
- Usability testing, user research, or working with product analytics.
- Exposure to Indian SMB software — billing, GST, distribution, field service, or dealer networks.
- Agency or studio experience, or a track record of shipping side projects of your own — especially anything you built with AI tooling.
- Having shipped an AI-native product surface: an agent, a chat interface, or a document or workflow automation.
- Public writing, threads, or talks about designing with AI.
- Comfort in code with AI assistance — enough to stand up a working front end yourself.

How We Work Five principles decide what we ship and what we cut. They apply to design as much as to engineering.

- Show the work, not adjectives. Real products, real numbers, things you can open and check.
- Proof over promises
- One blade, not an armory. One accent, one motif, one team for design and engineering. We say no to the extra dashboard and the feature that only demos well.
- Practice what we preach. Our own products carry the same standard as client work. If it isn't valuable enough for us to run, it isn't good enough to hand over.
- Earn attention, then get out of the way. Effort goes where it counts: the first version, the hard flow, the moment a new user decides to stay. The rest stays calm and legible.
- Honest by construction. No invented metrics and no invented people, internally or externally.

What We Offer Real ownership — small senior team, short feedback loops, no design by committee.

Range — client work and our own products, across web, mobile, and SaaS. You will not spend a year on one screen.

A seat at the table — design is part of product decisions from the first call, not a service function downstream.

Room to grow — a path toward senior designer or design lead as the studio grows, shaped around you.

The practical things — [health cover, leave policy, hardware, tool licences, learning budget].

Send us three things

- Your portfolio link or PDF.
- One case study you're proud of, with a short note on what the problem was, what constraint made it hard, and what you'd change now.
- How you use AI in your design work. A few lines, or a link, or a Loom — the tools, the workflow, and one thing you shipped faster or better because of it. We read this closely.
- Your resume.
