Job Summary

The Coding Director is responsible for assisting in the development and evolution of the overall strategy for the Company’s coding operations in the Health Information Management Service Center (HSC). The Coding Director is responsible for overall coding compliance and daily coding operations for the HSC including management of coding specific unbilled functions. The Coding Director interprets policies and procedures, recommends changes as appropriate, and provides relevant feedback. The Coding Director assists the HSC COO with the oversight and implementation of HSC planning, service level agreements, budgets, workflow processes and internal controls. This person serves as a key promoter of the HSC and is responsible for setting the tone of the center as a service organization, continuously seeking to understand, meet and exceed customer expectations and needs.

Supervises: Assistant Coding Director, Coding Coordinators, CDI Liaisons, Coding Manager as designated

Duties (included But Are Not Limited To)





Responsible for HSC coding operations and clinical documentation improvement operations (as applicable), ensuring timeliness, accuracy, completeness, consistency, compliance and standards fulfillment as defined in HSC Service Level Agreements (SLAs) .
Contributes to the development of strategic direction of HIM at HCA.
Coaches and provide overall guidance to the HSC coding team to resolve internal and external issues; help resolve dysfunctional behavior within functional areas(s); discipline and counsel staff as necessary
Monitors HIM coding performance according to productivity and quality standards as defined in job descriptions and SLAs.
Manages and motivates HSC coding and clinical documentation improvement operations (as applicable) staff.
Assists in the development and management of strategy, specific goals, objectives, budgets and performance standards for the HSC .
Proactively manages, including corresponding communications and escalation path
