We’re looking for a Technical Program Manager who has been an engineer before and can go deep into a product.
This is not a role for someone who only manages Jira, runs stand-ups, and follows up on tickets.
You’ll work directly with Afton’s CEO and CTO and are expected to become one of the people in the room who can actively improve technical and product decisions.
What you’ll own
Verify every deployment against the original spec and confirm it is actually live.
Review code diffs and check whether the implementation matches the requirement.
Groom specs before they reach engineering and identify missing edge cases.
Understand dependencies across legacy systems and microservices.
Track delivery dates, estimates, blockers, resource changes, and project risks.
Maintain strong Jira hygiene across tickets, epics, estimates, and dependencies.
Investigate estimate misses and production issues and explain the root cause clearly.
Provide written trade-offs when priorities or engineering resources change.
Create clear weekly reporting for leadership.




Develop deep enough product knowledge to answer most platform questions without first asking an engineer.
What we’re looking for
6+ years in software delivery
2+ years as a Technical Program Manager or Engineering Manager
Previous hands-on software engineering experience
Able to read PHP, Python, or JavaScript code/diffs
Experience with legacy-to-microservices migrations
Solid Jira experience — workflows, epics, dependencies, estimates, and reporting
Strong root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and spoken English
Comfortable using AI tools for code and spec review
At least 3 hours of daily overlap with US Pacific Time

Most importantly, we want someone who is comfortable saying:
“I don’t think that approach will work — and here’s what I recommend instead.”
You should be willing to challenge the CEO, CTO, or an engineer when you see a better approach — and bring a solution, not just an objection.
