The quality of school education available to students from low-income communities across India is very poor, and their chances of finishing college or building a career are far lower than those of their better-off peers. iTeach Schools was started in 2015 to change that and to create a level playing field for all children. It runs free, high-impact schools and a college-to-career programme for the most disadvantaged students in Pune and Navi Mumbai. The organisation is known for its career development, its result-oriented team culture, and school design that puts students at the centre. This role sits within iTeach's school team in Navi Mumbai, which works directly with students, their families and the neighbourhoods they come from.

Role

The School Social Worker makes sure students get the fullest possible support from everyone outside the school walls: parents,



community members, medical professionals and government officials. The work has three parts. Student welfare, which means tracking attendance and solving the problems that keep a child out of class. Parent engagement, which means building real ties with families and giving them a voice in the school. Community development, which means finding resources in the neighbourhood that make learning better. The focus is on the students who struggle most, the ones who will not succeed in school unless the adults around them are fully involved.

Responsibilities

Understand the community profile and orient teachers about the community and the parents they work with.
Collect complete student and parent information at the time of admission.
Identify, monitor and track issues linked to student attendance, punctuality and retention, and solve them through regular home visits.
