The commission

A major private neoclassical residence in Ahmedabad, designed by an internationally renowned classical architectural practice (the office of Robert Adam), is being executed in carved stone — column capitals, cornices, dome elements, bas-relief panels and decorative railings, across thousands of cubic feet of dressed stone.

This is not commercial stonework. It is the kind of sustained classical carving programme that a sculptor in India may encounter once in a career, if at all. The building is being built to the standard of a permanent work of architecture, and the carved ornament must be alive — not the dead, mechanically perfect output of a machine left to its own devices.





We are looking for the sculptor's eye that makes the difference between those two outcomes.

The role

You are the aesthetic authority over the carved stone — the person who turns the architect's drawings into three-dimensional ornament that _reads_ correctly and carries life. Specifically, you will:
- Interpret the architect's drawings into carved form, resolving in three dimensions what a drawing can only suggest.
- Model maquettes and prototypes (in clay, digital, or both) to fix the form before stone is cut.
- Drive and review the CNC rough-out, then lead the hand-finishing carvers who bring the surface to life.
- Own the final aesthetic quality of every carved element — proportion, profile, crispness, character.
- Advise on stone selection for carving feasibility and detail retention.
- Mentor and raise the standard of the carving team as the workshop grows.
